I prefer the look of the FR-S. Someone said the BRZ looks like it's wearing a mouth guard and I've never been able to unsee it.

SO, UPDATE!

Hi again, y'all. I've been away for a few months because I wound up buying one of these:

Because I figured I should be a little practical and get something that could carry people and/or my bike easily. Never more than one passenger, as it turned out. But I was enjoying the car for the most part, even though it was missing the rawness of my old ZX3. Boost was nice. But I had a nagging feeling, that I shouldn't have compromised...but second place ain't bad.

Then a BMW driver decided she wanted to occupy the same space I was parked in. At 40MPH. (It was hit in sorta the same area as this one, but much harder. Detail photo on my IG: @itsjustaduststorm) My handbrake was on, so the rear end came around ad hit the innocent Civic that was parked in front of me. But I'll take the spin instead of the direct impact and airbag deployment.

I was so mad at the time. The BMW driver was on her way home, going nearly double the speed limit when she hit me, and was "distracted" and "looking down." In other words, 3 people's lives were at risk because one dipshit wanted to text.

The insurance company totaled the car, thankfully. Both it and the 3 Series were toast, and I imagine the Civic needed a lot of work. And I needed another car. So! I went back to the same dealership where I bought the ST, in anticipation of buying another one (albeit in a different color), but for various reasons that fell through when I actually got to the dealer to sign the paperwork.

So, after talking with my father on the way back, I've decided to go back to me non-compromise choice and get a Toyobaru. He said, "When I was your age, I bought myself a 240Z. Loved the shit out of it. You've got plenty of time to be practical, go buy what you love."

Meaning, I'm on the hunt again! Only now, the more I look at the twins, the more I prefer the BRZ. So I'm on the hunt for a BRZ Limited now, though I feel like I'm gonna miss the sunroof. (Seriously, would it kill them to offer one?)

The BMW driver did you a favor. The 12+ Focuses are nothing but trouble. They have known probs with the tranny & engine and Ford's "plan" is to replace (not fix) the parts until 100k miles then you're on your own. I work with a guy who got one 2 years ago and it has spent a lot of time in the shop getting warranty work.

If you can I would jump on the 17 BRZ model or even remaining 16 FRS if you can get them below invoice.

Never had any trans issues, but most of us swap the gear oil out for something silkier and it definitely makes it feel better.

I traded in my mildly modded MKV GTI for my FR-S back in 2013, and couldn't be happier. Sure it's not quite as quick in a straight line, but in every other way i adore this car.

Check for a WRX. Driving is a tad less engaging but you you 4 door, 4 comfy people, trunk space, power, pull and sun/moon roof. Plus FA20.

I hear you about the dipshits. Rock and a hard place; don't want to drive a nice car because of the dipshits and yet, if you don't drive it, what's the point of having it?

But your pops is right; plenty of time to be sensible. Need to have fun while you can.

Had a T-top in my Supercharged MR2, sunroofs in both my SAAB 900 Turbos and both my 5th and 7th gen Celicas.

The 86 is my first car in 30 years without some kind of "sky view".

I don't miss a sunroof in the 86 in the least. If you drive this car the way it's meant to be driven, all the unnecessary crap becomes very clear. You are more engaged. You don't need the distraction. So I would submit that a sunroof is not needed in this car, and would likely compromise its feel and handling.

Conversely, of course, if that's a deal-breaker for you, then this is definitely not the right car for you.

TBH my ST didn't have any issues, but then I only got to drive the damn thing 1500 miles before the crash. Heel-toeing was impossible without going super saiyan on the brakes though.

Eh, not about that life. The ST was more than I even got to use on a daily basis. Where I live, 280TQ will get you from legal to jail time in 3 seconds. I almost never got to open the car up.

The '17 BRZ doesn't land til October, or so I've heard. Definitely not wanting to wait a long time, not again. I'm gonna try to get a good deal on a '16 though, there's a classic Subie blue not too far away that I have my eye on.

The 15+ WRX is the cure for insomnia. That thing could have 600 horsepower and it'd still look like a Corolla. Quick though.

Eh, I'd just like the option. I didn't have one until I bought my ZX3, and even then I didn't really care if the car had one at the time. It was nice on spring and autumn days, and I liked having the shade open just to make the cars feel more open.

Mostly it stayed closed, though. Not a dealbreaker in the least. Besides, I think the only thing in this class that offers a sunroof is the new Camaro, which...

Why are we getting dogged by minivans? If you drive a manual you should be able to leave pretty quick. You shouldn't be racing minivans anyway, and you shouldn't get left by them

Why? Probably because the Twins' 5-60 mph time sucks. The low 0-60 time is only achievable by dumping the clutch and having a bit of wheel spin. And I doubt most people are irresponsible enough to do that on the street on a regular basis. People are so focused on 0-60 time but the performance stat that matters on the street is the rolling start, 5-60.

Just look at Car and Driver's test of a 2016 BRZ. 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. 5-60 in 8.0 seconds. That is slow. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...aru-brz-review

For reference, every minivan in this comparison test can do 5-60 in less than 8 seconds. http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...e-specs-page-5

I'm not stating this as a slam against the Twins, rather just pointing out a statistical fact.

The minivan times are 7.7 to 7.9 seconds so hardly a massive difference. When that close it all depends on driver timing more that the stated times. If you are losing the jump on a minivan because it has a .3 second advantage then you need to wake up not have a more powerful engine.
