I got a Western Digital external USB 3.0 2tb. I can't recall the price but it was on sale and they usually do come on sale often. I currently have it connected to my wireless router acting as a nas.

Just check dealnews.com for a deal. If you were closer, I'd sell you a used drive. The thought of a 2TB drive is so quaint.

I had two seagates, bought at the same time, used in the same machine (main data/programs drive and backup) die within two months period.

This is why I always have a backup drive. Every drive may fail, and in my case, because of the backup, instead of suffering major disaster, I just took out the dead drive, swapped the cables, and kept going (while ordering replacement). I also dont't recommend RAID or automatic syncing of backups. My friend deleted a lot of important files by mistake and before he noticed, it propagated to all his automatically synced backups. I use a syncing program that I periodically run manually and always look at the sync list to ensure I am not doing any damage. |
