Actually S14B20 was a 2.0L version used only on the BMW E30 320is (I actually found this on wiki, as I was thinking of the S14 on the M3 originally).
The E30 M3 had 2.3L and 2.5L S14 engines, to basically compete with the Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3L and 2.5L with AMG Power Packs at the time. Too bad you wrote ~ 2.0L, this is my favorite Honda engine ad (first ever vtec engine B16A): Last edited by krayzie; 05-22-2015 at 02:48 PM. |

Best 2L NA engine of all time
Not trying to come off as too troll-ish, but I didn't see anyone mention any of the old Ferrari 4 cylinders.
Tipo 107 was a 2L, NA 4 banger making 125 HP per Liter in the 1950's. </troll> I actually am a fan of the torque curve of the F20C engine. It is literally flat line with a step where the VTEC came on. So cool. |

I'm not a fan of the step. It just means I'm missing out on torque and power between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Ideal crossover rpm is where the two cam profiles make exactly the same torque and horsepower, which would be at around 5000rpm. Having crossover there would optimize performance and eliminate the discontinuity in torque/power. Delaying VTEC to 6000 rpm hurts performance and gives the unnecessary and potentially chassis-upsetting step in the powerband.

Crank the volume.. picked up a cheap rsx type s (k20a2) after my FRS got wrecked. Surprised at how well this old engine held up.. Fuel mileage is within 1 mpg of what I was getting in the FA20. |

K20A/Z1 is a real gem. 8400rpm on a square cylinder. no counterbalancers neither. gobs of midrange. even more with the right mods.
