Doesn't really matter to me as I told him I want one for early 2017.
I think what he probably meant was that he is willing to take your money now. I was just at the dealer yesterday and they told me they can't order the PP or Series Yellow yet.

I'm curious what you think makes the 2017 "much more desirable"? I don't think the new car adds anything really significant for me personally.

ie:

Slight power increase - welcome, but tiny
New styling - I prefer the old spoiler, but like the new nose and taillights
Starlink - lose navigation which I like but gain "apps" I have no use for
Steering wheel controls - don't care personally
Instrument panel - I think the LCD doesn't look very integrated and feel it takes away from the analog throwback feeling of the car
Suspension - probably good, but I don't believe I would feel the difference on the street

The only change I really like without reservation is the wheels. But in any case (just for my curiosity ), what is so significant in the refresh that makes the car suddenly much more desirable?

Maybe not for you but I think for the majority who are shopping for the car now would not think twice to choose the 2017 over the older MY since most changes are small but numerous which adds up to a nicer package. As one of the reviewers stated, the car felt much more upscale stepping in. Most likely due to the new look of the steering wheel/tach and new leather all around.

I'm saying this since I knew a lot of people who complained that the interior was too cheap looking lol. (I don't think it is)

It's the cumulative effect of all the upgrades that put the 2017 significantly ahead:
  • It's going to be a bit quieter at cruising speed with the new insulator mats.
  • The reviews have made it clear that it handles a little better, with sharper turn-in and an increased capacity for dispatching rough road surfaces (e.g. track curbs) without being thrown off-stride.
  • The revised VSC with its new Track mode brings more flexibility to the stability control system, providing more graduated intervention, and so permitting more "natural" tail-out fun while still maintaining a safety margin.
  • The new digital readout functionality is a nice bonus, and to my eye it looks OK - not up to Porsche standards but this is a sub-$30k car
  • The styling changes and interior trim changes (like the new IP in the Limited) while not major collectively work to improve the look of the car.
  • The head unit/display is now mediocre rather than awful.
  • The PP offers Brembos with better brake feel and more fade resistance as well as upgraded dampers which should improve the ride and handling to some degree.
  • There is some amelioration of the torque dip, and a slight enhancement of the overall torque curve.
  • The engine and chassis have both received some refinement and strengthening upgrades which should bode well for improved reliability and improved capacity to handle mods.
There are probably a few other changes I have overlooked here - like the improved lighting system and the steering wheel controls.

Again, no one of these makes a big difference on its own, it's their collective impact on the car's overall quality that makes the 2017 the smart choice for current buyers.

So it looks like the system is updated now to accept orders on the manuals only. Just an FYI for those eager to place their orders and can't wait.

My dealer sent me an image of their ordering system that shows it's up for submission. The website may not reflect the '17s just yet, but I don't think that will keep the dealers from placing orders beforehand.

it's Subaru's official release, so i'd say that it's pretty reliable.

Nice pricing considering at the current exchange rate the 2017 US Limited has an MSRP of $36,052 CAD. Even allowing an extra $1000 for the outrageous shipping charges here we are still up about $5k over the currency exchange.

It seems as though both trim levels offer an MT and AT option. I thought that in the US market the AT was only available on the lower trim? did I get this wrong?

(Not that I am all interested in ever driving an AT car)
