I was in Reverse. Maybe that had something to do with it?

It also depends on how they wrote the cranking logic.

If you don't trigger the cranking table, you won't get start-related trouble codes. If your bump start turns the engine over faster than max cranking rpm for example, the ECU may use the normal running tables.

On Haltech ecu's, cranking tables are used below max cranking RPM. The OEM Denso stuff on this car may have much more complicated logic.
