I'll admit, I've done it before when I didn't know better. Highly recommend you pick up a set of box wrenches like these: https://www.amazon.com/Metric-Offset...F9XDAJM0SPP6Z1

Those will fit inside the hole in the top hat, secure the nut and allow you to get the allen wrench in there to steady the shock shaft.

I got my wrenches at harbor freight for cheaper...they're a little sloppy fit on the nut but they get the job done.

Endlinks really should be tightened with the car on the ground. Last two times my front clunked due to it being loose after tighting while in the air. Didnt think it would make a difference until someone else had ghe same problem and figured that was the cause.

i just installed my tein street basis and I needed a way to get the top hat off. Usually I would wise grip it but I didn't have a vice grip at the time. I went to home depot and got this set https://www.amazon.com/Husky-HUVTHRU...ts=p_4%3AHusky

omg amazing. should have bought it a long time ago. I don't know why its expensive on amazon. It was only 24 dollars at home depot

Another option is a strap wrench. https://www.amazon.com/BOA-BO13010-C.../dp/B0011E4QU4

I had a pass thru wrench so this is how I tighten the fronts

For the rears the pass thru socket wasn't long enough so I put this together using a deep impact socket. Impact sockets have a little hole where you can put a drill bit so that the vice grips don't just spin around the socket.

The T bar and 8/10mm socket keeps the barrel from spinning.

Hope that helps
