After installing a Revworks catless UEL header, my Magnaflow catback is too loud IMHO.

Almost for sure you will regret a muffler delete if you do a header afterward.

You're thinking Borla, but you already repeated what I said:

Muffler delete affects MPG

It's not so different. Your foot is still a much bigger factor. That diffuser does kill off good amount of noise generated by letting that big open area act like a drum with ur exhaust.

I have N1X+ diffuser for a year & half already.

A few weeks ago I got the Berk dual muffler delete and it is kind of loud. I have a pretty high tolerance for a loud exhaust, so it's not a big issue for me- some other people do not have a tolerance for a loud exhaust so it is a prob for them- know what your tolerance is before you delete the muffler. But IMHO it sounds awesome and cheap. as for MPG- yes, mine has gone down a little but it's because I get on it and I like the sound. Plus to get any power from this engine you have to run the revs up high and the more I have this car the more comfortable I am running the revs up so high.

To reduce the drone on the highway I had a cherry bomb (glasspack muffler) installed and now when I get on it, the exhaust is loud but when I cruise, it is very quiet. I love this setup. I also have an intake and I can hear the extra sound of the intake when I get on it, the exhaust does not overpower the sound from the front of the car and I don't have the annoying sound induction tube either (the tone of that tube didn't sit well with me once I went with the Berk).

I can't see how this is a waste of money- esp. since I got both used for less than half the MSRP. The setup is for sound, not power (though shedding 20 lbs from the car works for me!) and it is down to my preference- how is that a waste of money? A catback system will net the same gains as an axleback... none at all. I don't plan on dropping big money for a catback system that will sound the same (with my old car I had a stainless turbo back setup but no one ever crawled under my car to admire the bling underneath) and yield the same power gains. If you are going catback only, you are modding for sounds and/or bling and that's it. You can mess up your engine output with a catback, but there are no real gains. the FRS exhaust is very well setup and tuned for this engine.

One mistake many people make is instantly going for a bigger exhaust diameter on a N/A car. If you want that little bit of power from deleting the cats, then OK- that + a tune = kiss your powertrain warranty goodbye- but you WILL GET that extra bump in power. No cats also = big noise. So then you need a muffler again. It's a lot of money to void your powertrain warranty and gain 10% engine output and spend a couple thousand dollars in the process. Look at dynoes on this forum to see what headers do for power- they are mostly for sound until you delete that cat + tune.

But going big on your exhaust piping in a low power N/A car will mess up your power curve and sap what little low end grunt these cars may have even if you find dyno gains on the top end where you spend very little time anyway.

Watch this if you're thnking of going big to gain engine output. Where do you want your engine to make power?

First of all, don't worry about what's "ricer" and what isn't. Modding a car is self subjective, meaning you will know what you like and when you've taken it too far. I did a catback w/ muffler delete first and I am very satisfied with it, don't feel like a ricer at all. If there's been any decrease in mpg since it's because I've been driving my car twice as hard just to hear the lovely noise it makes.

Also, I would agree that headers are the better first option, but keep in mind that if you get a catless header you will need to get a tune to prevent a cel from flipping, which can cost up to $1000 alone based on what you get. So while it is a better mod it is much more expensive. I learned this the hard way when I bought a header with my catback but had to return it because I couldn't afford a tune, which meant getting a %20 refund fee being charged by the place I ordered it from. So if I were you I would do a TON of research and do it right instead of screwing up like I did.

Edit: Wow, I'm an idiot. Didn't see how old this post really was.

That's my point too, it's all about YOUR preference. I think some things are ricer and I don't like such as adding fake hood vents, gaudy trim pieces and performance robbing mods just for looks or sound- but a catback or an axleback is not ricer at all. This is one of the first mods people have been doing to thier cars for a LOT of years now.
