Everything I researched on radar/laser jammers ended up with me not believing they work. Go into a police forum and they'll talk about how they are useless and
they joke about confiscating them. Escort radar did a test on them and found them all to be worthless too.
By the time the technology is there to detect jam the radars, they will have already got a newer tech that will override them.
Of course I am saying all this without never have bought or used one so maybe there is something new I am not aware of?
Basically, if you are hit with laser, you are done so laser detection capable is really useless. The instant on radar will get you too but hopefully
they zapped somebody else and you pick that signal up. The best bet for radar detection is buy the best you can which usually is the most expensive
and use it correctly which means as a backup for when you aren't paying attention. Think of where you'd hide if you were trying to catch a speeder
as you drive and that will keep you safe most of the time; cresting over a hill/bridge, around a bend of road that is blocked, behind barriers in the median is where they get you.

Police even laugh at radar detectors too to be honest because when they see the nose of the car dip they already know what's going on. In Ontario it's illegal to have them so if you make it obvious they're gonna find the detector

Not sure how it is in Alberta though

Legal in Alberta, BC and Sask.
The ticket and loss of the unit (even if not on or even hooked up) is way more money than even most speeding tickets in Ontario.

The top choices are usually V1 and Redline. I run the V1 in my BRZ and the Redline in my wife's car. The Redline has a little better performance on the highway, but I do miss the directional arrows.

Key to it is to not just depend on a radar detector. I never speed alone. Always have a rabbit in front and keep an eye on my surroundings. You also have to know how to interpret the radar detector. If it blips a couple times and then stops, don't ignore it because it could be an IO (instant on) hit.

One key thing about the V1 or Redline is to customize the frequency sweeps. I also set it to display the frequency of the bands so that I know if it's a real threat or not. You can find out the frequency of the radar guns used by your local PD online.

I find with this car, people seem to want to go faster than you so this is what I do. More than happy to let the guy or gal go on ahead.

If I'm alone in the middle of the highway, I just go a little over speed limit (5 mph at most) and just stick cruise control on. Not worth it to get somewhere seconds faster.

Radar detectors is to prevent you from accidentally speeding. Not so you can speed..

Depends on what you are willing to spend.

I have an Escort 9500 CI in my Durango and a K40 in the Audi. Both have laser deflection ability.

I drive about 30,000 miles per year, typically 10-15 over on open roads and I have not had a ticket in 27 years. This includes a lot of miles in a 600 hp C63 with long tube headers that could be heard for miles at WOT.

This type of laser deflection provides a very short time period of recognition before the laser will burn through and provide a reading. I have however seen several officers pull their device back and look at it as if it were broken while I was approaching.

The best defense as previously mentioned is awareness. Don't drive distracted period and if you push the speed limit a little then make sure speed limit enforcement is part of your situational awareness. Learn their habits and don't be the rabbit in front of a pack of greyhounds.
