Ughhh Part of was hoping they'd fix the torque dip... The other part of me was hoping they wouldn't so I wouldn't have a big reason to trade in for 2017. Based on that data and the dyno... I don't think the 2017 is going to noticeably faster, the BRZ with the 7.5 wheels might be interesting.. But still would rather have the TRD Springs and sway.

Yeah, no fix for the dip and the actual engine dyno numbers are very close. It'll be even closer to after drive train losses to the wheels.
Looking at the thrust curve I think the new car will feel a bit faster but mostly by virtue of the shorter gear. It'll come out of a tight corner better, it is out of the dip at 37mph while we need about 40mph. However we get about 60mph out of 2nd on our cars now with 225/45s and the new car will top out around 57mph on the same tire. Seems like a disadvantage on paper but the ND is even shorter and seems to do quite well. Maybe the ND can get away with it since it is more likely a shift to third will be needed and it can actually stay there versus banging off the rev limiter in 2nd. Add the 7.5" wheel on the BRZ PP and it'll be very interesting to see what happens in the real world. I suspect the new car will be incrementally better but they're still in the same ball park. |

So the Miata took 1st-4th in the College Station tour. Is the 86 soon to be dead in C-Street now? Only one Champ Tour event win for a Twin thus far (first event of the season before most people even had their MX-5s). Looks like three for new Miata and one for an RX-8?

What has occurred to me is that the ND has a lot going for it that the FR-S doesn't, which may make it a dominating car actual performance aside. The ND is the newest version of a car with a tremendous racing and autocross heritage. Even if the chassis were to become an underdog in street class autocross (which it won't), it and the performance parts for it will still have great value on the open market for resale to other racers for years if not decades to come. Because of this and it's likely capability to dominate CS (not to mention other reasons), lots of top drivers are migrating to the platform and class. Due to this influx of talent (who happen to be driving NDs) it sure is going to look like the ND is a faster car than the rest of CS even if it isn't. And again, I don't think that call can be made for some time, probably not until after Nats. If guys like Ogburn and Harvey both get buried by NDs at Nats then we'll all know whats up. The next important question is what should I buy to replace my FR-S if CS becomes spec ND. I'm thinking PP GTI. |

I've been pretty bummed out all season going up against a codriven ND that has dominated every national event it attended. I did two runs in that ND at a test-n-tune and was immediately 1 second faster than my car. I want to chalk it up to the elevation and course dependency at Fedex, but I've already been looking in the classifieds for something else for 2017 if the rest of the season does not go well.

Simple, just petition to put the ND in BS, that solves everything right?

The 86 is getting its ass handed to it everywhere by the ND... "Dropping" the 86 to DS isn't the solution, the new WRX is STUPID fast there at every local event I've seen. Raw timing fast STX cars by a lot, for example...

Wait. Sreet class WRX faster than STX twin?
I would have to know who was diving what before I bought into that. |

Have at it. There are plenty of national level competitors there. Not so many in STX, but my car is essentially full national level prep and I've been fast enough to be "right there" with past national champs and trophy winners. I can find more, Chris is/was stupid fast in the WRX. There are a few other events where he's dominated in the same fashion.
