The .com just indicates what kind of domain it is. Like .org, .net, .ca, etc. the domain name belongs to someone in particular but can be hosted on any of a bazillion hosting services. Most hosting services will host several domains from the same server. Even the same drive on a particular server can be used to store data for several domains. If one server goes down several domains could be affected. I'm just glad the site is back up now.
