I apologize Fenrir, and thank you for the sarcasm... I am pretty new to this and I was unaware that it was in reference to an AFTERMARKET HPFP - thought it might possibly be through/by Toyota/Subaru...

But thanks for being a complete **** and making me feel stupid

I meant no personal offense, was just a silly question. Won't learn otherwise

But yeah, someone actually figured out (for the Mazdaspeed3/6 anyway) that the high-pressure fuel pump was basically the same thing that Audi/VW had been using on their TDI vehicles for a long time, and was able to adapt the higher-flowing pump to our cars with relative ease. The major difference is that most of those cars are running some form of FI, and the stock pump had major issues maintaining pressure with the increased boost being run on modified cars. Only time will tell if the FA20's stock HPFP will be able to keep up (which is entirely possible) with the mods/tuning the community comes up with.

Got the cricket noise as well in the DI system. I really thought its a bearing, it's just loud and sounded like a belt squeaking. Oh well that's the DI system. Jut have to live with it.

I can't believe you guys keep saying this is normal and can't hear chirping. Of the videos posted here, you can clearly hear the difference from the one guy here who posted a vid with NO cricket noise.

Compare them:

This is a real cricket:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQFEY9RIRJA"]Cricket Chirping - YouTube[/ame]
.
.
.
This is a cricket in the FR-S:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmooGfYQxms&feature=player_embedded"]Scion frs idle noise - YouTube[/ame]
.
.
.
Now this one, notice something is missing? NO CRICKET:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZC_XsJuZ20&feature=player_embedded"]FR-S BRZ Belt Tensioner.mp4 - YouTube[/ame]

Not a single squeak or high pitched sound anywhere in the last video. Does that mean it is functioning incorrectly since the high pitched squeal is considered normal in the other videos according to some of you guys?

Does not compute.

I don't think the cricket noise normal, but the clicking is 100% normal DI. I'm not too worried about the cricket noise however. We'll see how it pans out.

And I don't see why anyone should complain about the clicking noise. Audi, BMW, Porsche, etc are all using DI engines and they click all the same. My friend's TT-RS sounds just like my BRZ at idle. GDI is the new performance tech.

I just noticed the "chirping" last night for the first time. It was at the end of a 30 minute highway drive once I got on to city streets.

I think it's safe to say a good amount of us are having this "issue." Perhaps it's normal?

Yeah I have the same noise and since everyone has them I assume it's normal or Subaru/Toyota will do a recall if it is not.

I'll be taking my car into the dealer today to fix the front bumper (showed up off the trailer with the driver's side clips broken :\) and I'll see if my car is making the noise to have them comment on it. I'm 98-99% sure it's completely normal for the car, I'm just curious at this point what exactly it is. It could be the HPFP itself making the chirping sound since it's cam-driven, and at idle it could just be lower pressure in the pump. Seeing as most people only notice it after the car is warmed up, I'm leaning that direction as to what it actually is.

Mine "chirps" too though I'm not sure it sounds quite the same as these vids. It chirps at idle and disappears at about 1200 RPMs whether I'm in gear or not. I have an appointment Friday at the dealer to have it looked at.

It DID not chirp for the first 400 miles or so... It sounds as thought it's coming from the same place though.

I'll update after my dealer takes a look.

Mine chirps at a low RPM only. Say 1000rpm or lower. Basically, whenever the DI kicks on is when I hear it, but only after the car has been driven for some time.
