I feel like you're answering your own questions. You like the BRZ, you want to mod the car. All of the cars in this segment are made to have the option of being modded so why not. Also 400 hp is attainable with force induction my friends and their cars all can run 400 or more with turbo systems and e85, some have supercharger a that can do similar numbers. It's how much you want to put in, and what you like. On the flip side of things many people including myself feel that 200hp is enough, even at 200 and the kinds of racing I do I can't bring out the full potential of the car. So I wouldn't matter if the car is 400 hp if i can't drive something 200hp well im not wasting my time and money possible voiding warranty and getting headaches for a couple of seconds faster to 60 etc. Find your priority. The car is good for what you want to do. This is as clear as day.

I totally agree but that applies across the whole range of OEM tires (well most like you said) so again does not make the Primacy ones Prius tires or any worse than any other brand.

No wonder it's so hard to sell the twins as a re-education product in sports car driving enjoyment. We've had too many rocket propelled shitboxes for the past 4 decades to the point people today think that the ridiculous power output should be the norm.

UGH, this makes things sticky
I understand the feeling. But it will be at least 3 years, more likely 4 before the new-gen hits the market, and probably initial demand will be so high that if you want to order one after the reviews are out you can add a 6 month wait, even longer if you wait for a test drive. (And if you want to wait for Subaru to fix the leaking rear lights, crickets, etc. in the new model, add another year. ) So you've got 4-6 years to enjoy the refreshed '17.

Personally I am waiting to test drive the refresh... and compare it to the Fiat 124 Abarth.

This is not a call out nor a slam of any type even though it sounds like it:

Why the very specific goal of 400HP? I totally get that people want more power but as soon as they set a number to it I start to wonder exactly what they want that power for. If just to say "I have 400HP" then that is cool and all but there are very few circumstances where you will ever get to actually use that much. In fact I know that anything even coming close to that would make the car almost impossible to DD for me.

Have you even spent any time behind the wheel of a stock one? A 1/2 hour test drive does not give a good indication of the car's capabilities nor enough seat time to determine if you want 400hp or if 50 will do the trick for you.

See this is the sort of stuff some people just don't understand because they've just driven a straight line all their lives, and everything should be like Fast & Furious.

I was in the shop for an alignment this morning, and the master tech was so excited after the test drive around the block asking me about my shifter and clutch, and the folks next door was asking him about my exhaust when he rolled back in, even tho all this time right beside me stood a modified V8 Impala SS with funky Standox paint getting body work done. And I have a stock looking car with the supposedly POS stock engine.

i have driven the FRS a handful of times having sold them in the past year but i agree with you, a small test drive here and there is nowhere near enough. My reason honestly may seem really stupid.. My gramps used to have a 2014 vette before he died and i remember how incredible it was the few times i was in the car feeling my butt tingle as that ridiculous torque and power ripped me forward. In Disney World when i ride the rockin rollercoaster... that initial start of the ride going 0-60 in 2.7 seconds (something among that time) is just the coolest thing to me. So at the end of the day, i want to feel a similar feeling but STRANGELY enough, i like 4 cylinder cars, imports, and this car in particular very much. i dont really find a 370Z as interesting and rewarding as i would in a smaller car that can still have the same output. Hopefully this didnt make you lose some brain cells haha

No idea. My WRX is 267hp and it's 50hp too much for me (except when there is a turbo lag). 1.8-2.5L NA engine with 160hp-240hp is more than enough for a sub-2800lb sportscar. Miata ND has only 155hp and it's really quick @ 2300lb. If you want to go fast, I say rev it higher.

Don't waste your time with this platform. 400 HP will take a LOT of investment. Not only the forced induction kit price, tuning, probably E85, and then you will almost assuredly need a built motor. This car looks good and handles, but fast it is not. To make it fast requires a significant investment.

i will definitely look hard and good and test drive many a vehicle of interest. I may even just decide that 1.) this car IS enough as is, or 2.) if i REALLY want to go through with the investment, then i guess i will do so.
