Trying to find crimp connectors for the 3" speaker terminals but can't find the ones with two different sizes, should I just solder? The 7"s have the spring terminals. I'd like to find some kind of connector for my sub woofer line as well, the wires get beat up after being disconnected/reconnected a few times. Maybe those angled banana clips?
for the ones with terminals you /could/ solder leads that go to male/female terminals you have. I did that for my 3.5 dash speakers.

Do I really even need the door speakers when I have a powerful sub in the trunk? My system/highs sound plenty loud with door speakers disconnected, even when my stock radio was being used. What do you guys think?
Having more speaker points increase the sonic realm around you, it's something hard to explain, but more sources gives one a more 'whole' listening experience. It depends a lot on your crossover and speaker choice, but having the door speakers in conjunction with everything else will fill in that gap near the door zone, which in turn helps everything.. puts less stress on the other parts of the system and in general I say go for it if you have the space and parts available

Sound design is hard for me to explain, since I'm not an engineer but a musician.. but it's something very realizable and felt

I don't know if you read the thread or not, but I'm going with 7" speakers in the doors.

I've installed everything and it sounds great. I did notice while tuning everything that when I have the volume up high, I smell some type of plastic\electric odor, it's hard to explain. I'm guessing it is coming from the dash/door speakers. Is this normal when breaking in speakers, or should I turn the gain down on the amp?

When all my stuff was new, same happened to me... Idk about if it was good or right, but I remember. Everything is still working so I guess it was normal.

Are the mids and highs supposed to be at the same level output? My dash speakers (highs) seem much louder than my door speakers (mids). Should these be equal in output or is it normal for them to sound lower?

I understand that highs naturally sound louder, but if I set the gains independently, should I set then to be about equal in output?

New guy here.. Just chiming in.. The mids are in the dash and your lows (or for all intents and purposes-"low mids" - 55hz hard roll off) are in the door and do sound good.. I love that there's a 6.5 (6 3/4-really) punching.. That's usually the missing link in car audio. I mean around here it's like 1992 all the time..808 time with no bottom definition.. That comes with punch and I love an 8 or a well powered 6.5, rounds out the sound. Just got my 86 but have been swapping out car audio and building systems for decades.. (not to mention the doors are 2 ohms..) just did a full install a few days ago and I kept the factory door speakers.. Crossed over right and cut in right-frankly this new system would not sound as great (great doesn't really describe it) as it does. They were the only speaks I kept. Opining..

It's an EQ thing.. I found with the stock system that the highs usually had to be pulled lower than the lows..or run it flat. I thought the system that came in it sounded very nice.. I could tweak it very little (not much choice) and just keep the highs down under control and it was very clean - a factory system but a lot better than most. They at least showed they cared by trying.. I also have a 2002 S2000-anybody remember that sad pathetic excuse for a stereo? Honda should just left a hole.. "your audio goes here!"

I got this set pretty nicely now. I just set my fader to favor the door speakers a few notches more than the dash speakers and it blends well.

I agree, the S2000 stock speakers were terrible. I drove a 2000 S2000 for 7 years. The speakers are one of the first things I replaced, as well as the radio. I will give credit to Honda though, at least they gave radio control on the dash. I really wish the BRZ had steering wheel controls.
