Back-in-the-day ...... I would speculate that the identical car with the "much harder to push clutch" had some part of the clutch linkage bent.

Now, since our cars do not have much clutch linkage ........ oh, I'll let @Ultramaroon take it on in ........

I suspect SFK supplies the oem tob because they look identical. Is there another one?

Would SFK have a tob that would fit but be a stronger alternative to oem? Unless it's silly to want an aftermarktet tob

I don't think it's silly at all. Someone may chime in but I haven't seen any alternatives.

He's talking about using trans fluid instead of brake fluid. It's feasible.

His was much stiffer than mine. My "throw" in the pedal is almost effortless compared to his. Both of our clutches are stock. What exactly would cause such a massive difference in the feel of the pedal?

Never got the notice and just stumbled across this.


Did your friend get the car new? Like Celica said a pile of cars had the spring removed. The 13 I test drove before buying mine had the spring removed and it does indeed create a whole different feel. I would bet this is what the difference is.

I sure hope not, considering that a cursory google indicates that transmission fluid will quickly ruin the seals in a system designed for brake fluid. Not sure if the 86 has a separate reservoir or not, so even worse if it mixes with your brakes.

So either this suggestion is going to be just ineffective, or it's going to be ineffective and dangerous. I know you're trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but either way, this has nothing to do with transmission fluid.

Not 100% but I believe people refer to the ACT heavy duty TOB
