I wonder if that would be enough to clear the bonnet ("hood" in America talk)? Time to get some measurements I think. It seems that HPTuners VCM Suite can disable the anti-theft stuff. I'll do a bit more research as to what other dependence on the donor vehicle body can be eliminated or circumvented.
Yea best bet is to measures but he'll they fit the ls so I don't see why the lfx would be too much different should be smaller. And as for the hood.. The camaro intake is pretty low.

I'm open to discussion about EZ30 vs another H6 or V6 (as per my original post).

You keep saying that yet this is the 3rd time I post about the h6 vario and you completely ignore the suggestion as such one can assume you do not care about people suggestions and just want to reinforce your already made decision.

An LFX would actually be pretty cool, as would a VQ.
Just decide and make it happen because id love to follow your build.
And don't worry about the people on this forum, as you found out pretty quickly (looking at your join date), most seem to be illiterate and hard headed.

Coming from someone from NC you must know what you are talking about regarding illiterate people seeing as you have a large population of them .

All kidding aside most people are just tired of seeing the type of thread come up, week after week, with people asking recommendations but shooting down everyone's suggestions(that they asked for) because in reality they already made up their mind. In other words people are tired of seeing rhetorical threads pop up every other week.

And then you indeed do have your idiots/trolls.

OP still has not yet replied to my suggestion about a H6 (it's one of the only legit recommendations and OP chose to ignore it several times which demonstrates my above point leading to even more people coming in here to be ****s, which he is partially responsible for due to his inability to consider the recommendations that were made to him based on his own set requirements aka v6/h6)

Thanks for the suggestion but any Porsche H6 won't suit. Far too expensive, rare and physically too wide. I'm sure it's an awesome motor though!

Your statement couldn't be further from the truth. I'm now seriously considering the LFX based on some suggestions in this thread, an engine I wasn't considering before.

It would be noticeably taller than the LS due to being 60 instead of 90 degrees and DOHC. With sump modified if necessary and mounted hard rearward, I'm hoping hood clearance will be OK.

Lol, I'm outta here when I'm done with college! (I moved here when I started high school).
It's just annoying to see someone ask for N/A solutions and for people to keep saying "turbo charge".
But oh well!

Based on some info from guys that have done LFX in Miatas, hood clearance is probably not going to happen easily

If only 120 degree V6s were common!

My 50 dollar bet against you still stands. Here's a head-start because you're stuck on the LFX.

There are exactly zero similarities between a Miata engine bay and ours.

Your clearance problem with an LFX in the 86 is going to come from the fact that the 86 has the steering rack at the rear of the spindle, behind the front crossmember.

Notice how our front LCA's are backwards compared to most cars.

You can't modify the pan enough to fit it. The pan is a stressed member and bolts to the bellhousing.

The way you fit an LFX in a GT86 is to redo the entire front suspension, including the crossmember, switching to a suitable front-steering arrangement.

You can modify the "sump" part of the oil pan by raising it for clearance. The overall height will be suitable.

Pic 1: LFX RX8
Pic 2: FRS
Pic 3: Mazdaspeed Miata.

One of these is not like the other. Anything strange about the FRS? Keen observers will note. The red arrow is irrelevant.

With every swap there are issues I'm you you could get it to fit if you really wanted to. Hell you have to have a custome Frame for the Miata! Maybe some one will do it maybe not! But I think it will be worth it in the end

I must have missed the part where you can't post about a potential future engine swap until you are ready to start it straight away. The attitude from most posters on this forum shocks me. It will happen in due course. I need to finish my 335i, build a shed, save a bit more money, buy an 86, cage it, do suspension and brake upgrades, then do the engine swap. I like to plan things out rather than just make fast decisions and regret later. So now you think I'm stuck on the LFX? LOL. Earlier, apparently I was stuck on the EZ30.

That can be worked around. I've modded those thick alloy types of oil pans that bolt to the bellhousing before. They just need to be bolted to something flat while welding and milled flat afterwards if necessary. Height is more of an issue that can't easily be resolved IMO.

That's one way. I'd never do that just for the sake of fitting a particular engine. Seems a LOT harder than modifying the oil pan and pickup, which CAN be done on that type of oil pan without issue.

Because, unlike you, I actually own the car, and have a full shop to work on it. Access to all these engines, you know, boring research stuff.

Keep ignoring the advice of other people. It'll get you far in life.

You disgust me.
