Oh wait! You guys don't have pin #s on most of your cards down there yet do you? That could be it. We have had pin numbers here for 10 or more years so there is rarely a receipt to sign. In fact I can not recall the last time I did sign one.

All debits use pin numbers, credits use signitures. Or debit cards ran as credit use signatures too.

Edit: I actually called it too, went to an operator.
That number has gone to operator since it came out back in the early 80s. I bet many a call has been made to it over the last 30 some odd years.

Ahhh see our credit cards use pins as well. Suppose there could be some little mom and pop places that still get signatures but I obviously don't shop there since I never sign anymore.

This very much interests me, as I assumed credit and debit was the kind of thing that was standardized worldwide. I never would've thought other countries did it differently. I guess I'm just being a close-minded American lol.

Yeah, our credit cards don't have pins for purchases. They come with pins, but mostly for either cash advance or ATM transfers. I sign signatures with most purchases as debit charges a fee of 25 cents at some banks

Other countries do it differently because its more secure. Here in the us we would rather spend thousands to millions of dollars after fraud has taken place rather then try and prevent it.

I got fired from other job in Alberta, coz, I was bored over there and my ex-boss found out that I was applying for other jobs that interest me more. I don't regret getting fired, as I moved back to Ontario after that and got way better job!! But he regretted firing me, as he asked me to come back if I sign a contract with him to not quit the job for a year! Told him no f***in' way and went on a month long road trip across Canada before starting new job in Ontario.

There are a few places around Michigan and at least one in Tennessee that are using the chip and pins that we have. I was the very first person ever in this little restaurant in Buttfuck Tenn. where she swiped my card and the machine told her to insert the chip. She didn't have a freakin' clue what that meant and I had to show her. The whole thing was made even worse by the fact that I couldn't understand her accent and she had no idea what I was saying. The whole conversation was nothing but "what?" "Pardon?" but we eventually got it to work. Then there was nothing to sign and she was totally baffled again. I just signed the blank back of the slip so I could finally get out of there.

that would be the first time you used your new card with a chip in it (they require signatutre for first use then it's all pin/chip from there on out).

US has pin/chip for debit but not yet for credit cards (although they are slowly moving towards it). The rationale we got when I worked in credit card fraud was that for the US (compared to Canada), the cost of getting the new systems implemented and sending chip/pin cards to all customers outweighed the cost of the status quo (which is added fraud to customers. In other words, it was more profitable for banks/cc companies to have you frauded and cover your expenses (as per contract you are not responsible for fraudulent activity done on your account) than it was to keep you safe from fraud in the first place). Shows you how much they value their customers doesn't it.

Oh there are still the very, very rare occasions where I use it that they are still not chip compliant but it has been a while.

I was fired from a small auto repair shop for being "inexperienced". I was hired in as an apprentice mechanic.

Still confused about it till this day.....
