I really want a factory fitting unit that runs Android and can play music-videos. Also need something to deal with the 8" after market sub I plan on getting. This looks like it could be it.

I'm guessing there are no restriction on this unit in terms of when it can or can't play videos (like, it will play videos even if you are driving)

No, I never got it to work and gave up on it once I was able to root my phone and begin tethering.

also did you have to shave off any of the bezel on the head unit to make it fit or grind of the dimples on the factory brackets? or did it just fit right out of the box?
also what firmware are you using?
and is the mic on the unit like really bad? is it usable for the odd phone call? the mic is part of the head unit right?

Yes, it's bad. Im not sure how bad as I am always on the talking end.

Yes, it's built-in, there is a little hole on the front of the unit. You can replace this but it requires some DIY\electronics skills and know-how.

it looks like this unit has a plug at the back that allows you to plug in an external mic, have you tried that?

IIRC, this is not for bluetooth mic, this is something else. If you read through the XDA thread there is probably more info on it.

Based on what I've read, to use a new mic for bt calls, you must open the unit and solder a new mic/new mic leads onto the bluetooth circuit board. You can then mount the mic outside of the unit.

The external mic is highly recomended to be used instead of the internal mic
for phone calls.
just plug the included ext mic in the back of the headunit.

and to install that firmware RK3066 800X480 or RK3188 800X480 i just copy the mcu.img and update.img to the root of the sd card and install? I assume that firmware is pre rooted and I should be good? also do you use google maps does that have a voice search feature?
