Well,,, I did get the post caps welded in and welded up the can and swapped it in yesterday. Sounds just like the stock exhaust note.
![]() Still surprises me that blocking off most of the right side and a good portion of the left makes so little change. I guess the next step would be covering the holes on the intake pipe and finish covering the baffles both on the left side. Stay tuned...... I'll take at least one more swing at this.

As far as the exhaust note goes,,,me too. There was a fair ammount of change made internally,, but the song remains the same. I'm also wondering if covering those holes will really do to much?? I'm starting to think about putting a 2.5" u-bend over the intake pipe and route it to each of the exhaust tip pipes. I don't think I'd connect them to the exhaust tip pipes,, just dump right in front of them. I'd need to weld the U to the intake pipe,, then maybe a support strap from the U to the left exhaust tip pipe. I'd also need to cut a hole in the U to feed the right exhaust tip. Too bad I didnt measure what radius U pipe I'd need. The question is now,,,, do I cut up the unmodified muffler I just took off or pull off the modified and cut it up more???

Just had a thought,,, I can measure the distance for the radius on the outside pipes to the left. Sweet. I'll order the U pipe tomorrow.

Spent some time on this yesterday. I opted to cut up my old unmolested muffler so I could start with a clean slate. Again cut inside the spot welds and made a flap. I cut the pipes first with the cut off wheel and finished with the reciprocating saw with a wide metal blade. Went better than last time but still a PITA.
I also had bought a couple of 2.5" 16 gauge U bends from EBAY. The radius was too wide so I had to cut out a section in the middle of the bend to tighten it up a bit. So I can attach the inlet pipe to the drivers side output pipe pretty easy. The 2.5" pipe just slips into the input pipe so makes for a pretty good fit. I'll only be able to weld around half of it (unless I cut open the other side of the muffler) so I'll still get a bit of blow by. I cant really weld the U pipe to the output pipe as there is some type of packing between the two layer of steel. So again a little blow by will happen. I will attach some type of strap there to reinforce it a bit. So the question is how loud would this set up be?? There is still the perforated input pipe (see previous post above for pic) which will still quiet things down, a little blow by on the U pipe,,, plus the perforated pipe and packing in the output pipe. Originally I wanted to route the input pipe to both output pipes. The issue is the passenger side pipe is on a slightly different plane than the other two pipes (see second pic). I think I could cut a bit of a Y pipe off of it and get the exhaust routed there,,, but it'll be a chore,,,, and maybe make it too quiet. We'll see.....

Went ahead and welded in the U pipe. I didn't tie in the other output pipe,,, so basically it's a single muffler exhaust,, sort of. Any exhaust that gets out of the perforated inlet pipe can use the passenger side exhaust to outlet. I welded up and painted the can so one night this week I'll try swapping it in and see what we have.
I remain afraid it'll be louder than I want,,,,but I was so far off the last go around I figured we'll give it a try. If it's too loud for me maybe I can find someone local to swap for a stock one. This picture shows the basics configuration.

Let me make sure I understand this correctly. You made a muffler delete, but kept all of the weight.

I'd like to think it's old school hot rod stuff,,, that would be when you moded your own parts as apposed to just buying stuff. I might be too old to be hanging out on this forum. ![]() Quote:
Well if you go back and look there is a bit of perforated tube, baffles and sound absorbing material that isn't in a muffler delete. That being said,,, it may be way too loud for me in this car, but the 25 lbs that the muffler weighs doesn't mean a thing to me.

Not trying to be a smart ass or anything, just trying to throw out valid points. I'm aware of the perforation, but you're still going to get nearly all (if not all) of the flow going through the one side. That would actually be pretty loud. It doesn't sound bad, but it is loud. Maybe put holes in the U bend as well? Heck, you can even add a butterfly valve onto the side of that bend for "adjustable" volume.

There is a major satisfaction when someone asks you where you got something from, and you say, "I made it."
