i would not spray them, if anything i would try a vinyl overlay.. I did it in my Celica, I've had the vinyl on since 03 and it hasn't faded or try to come off.
got them from bluebatmobile, maybe he can make some if there is enough interest.

Regardless of the process used, the tail lamps are designed to never come apart after assembly. Baking in an oven will not weaken the bond, in fact during the hotplate method it is not uncommon to have the contact temperature near 300C. Trying to break apart the weld will result in cracking the lens and destroying the assembly
The company I work for builds the tooling used in welding tail lamps and I am responsible for doing customer runoffs and debugging such equipment. We break hundreds of lamps a year to determine if the part is properly sealed and once it breaks, it will never go back together.
PS, I cannot wait for this car to finally come out!
Good call on warning about opening tail lamps. I've run into a few people who've broken theirs when trying to paint the interior. Most I've seen are definitely not glued together like headlights. Would be an expensive replacement part, too.

LaminX

Hi all.

In South Africa, we just apply a protective film over the lites (tails and heads).

They come in various colors (even clear).

As long as you have HID's on your headlights it should be fine to use a gun-smoke film over them.

As for the tails, the gun-smoke will take care of the issue.

Simple to apply, using some soapy water, applicator card and a heat gun. You can even apply them without removing the lights if you're patient enough.

Search for LaminX on Google.

Case in point, look at the current Tacoma. I have the 05 (1st year released) and in 08/09 they changed it with the blacked out headlights and LED taillights and offered some of the stuff standard that were options when I bought mine. Now in 2012, they completely changed the front bumper and the interior got some small but nice changes.

I actually prefer the taillights and over all look of the 05-06 Tacomas over the 08/09 and current model. Only thing i like about the newest ones is the TRD off road decal on the side is grey and not the red

Defintely let us know how it goes, and take a photo from top down, etc. I might pick up the cutout version of these. I had been toying around with doing exactly this, with a flat black on the top and creating a black line between the red and the white of the tail once the overlay was on.

Grazio & Co. already have red taillights.

Tom's and Spyder Auto will also have taillight options soon...
