I'm lucky the TRD intake is much bigger but somehow less cumbersome to mess with

Hmmm... I dunno. It didn't drop in as cleanly as the factory one. The clips didn't want to buckle as easily. Seems to be working though

Boxes confuse me sometimes, so it took me 15 minutes to get my K&N in, coming up on being due for a cleaning.

Interesting to note that the TRD is also oiled, so much for that 'oiled filters are crap and will screw up your sensors that's why OE is dry' theory...

Properly oiled is really the key factor there!

Usually all the issues I've ever seen with "oiled" filters are involved with over oiling

Strange, mine slid in nice and snug, clips buckled on perfectly. I dont think it would go in the wrong way so it must be right. weird.

I had trouble with mine too, and after several attempts I found that the "trick" is to place the new filter on the bumper (fixed) side of the housing and then clip the box (moving) side around it. This was MUCH easier than what I was doing (which was to place the new filter in the box side and clip it with filter on to the other side).

To repeat - try placing the filter on the fixed frame and then clipping the box around it. Hope this helps.

i have an HKS drop in filter. fit perfectly and the whole thing took under 5 min. i spent more time unscrewing the bolts than swapping the actual filter.
