im talking about knowing the EXACT limit of the car, i already know a broad basic of the cars abilities already i hoon on a daily basis in the car and have almost 3k miles on the car and ive had it 20 days, i know right now im far from being comfortable at the limit with the FRS

for example i knew exactly how far my celica would slide on asphalt, in the rain on bald tires , where exactly to hit the apex so i would understeer an land my tire on the edge of the center line, then gun it on the exit

that type of intimacy i have not acquired yet in the FRS

trust me, try to take a 90º corner, in the rain, on asphalt , with bald tires, going down hill, fwd car, at 35 mph i scared every person i knew doing that turn

Hmm...looks like the s2000 had a co-driver(extra-heat in the tires can be a good edge depending on heat size).

Judging from the times of the 2nd driver, looks like the FR-S could be competive. STR/STX allows for wider rims (more street tire grip), diff replacement, more suspension mods = more neg camber, piggy-back ecu, more aggressive exhaust/intake options, more weight saving option, etc...Competitive, but not an overdog.

Hard to use the s2000 guy's times as a benchmark without knowing how well prepped the car is. If he is well prepped and at least regionally competitive, thing may be looking pretty positive for the FR-S!

Wow, they give you 5 runs? That's so awesome! 3 or 4 for us in SoCal for comp days.

- Correct on the owner of the car. Alignment was changed and probably not ideal also.

-who ever needs a year in a car to learn it is crazy and needs to work on driving. I can jump in just about any car and by halfway good. I jumped in my friends C5 Z06 a few weekends ago without ever driving a corvette in my life. The first time I ever sat one was the day I drove it at that event. We have 6-7 other corvette drivers at the event and I had the fastest vette time of the day until the owner of the car rode with me and complimented me on my lines and told me how much better they where then his. His last run he beat my time by less then .05 seconds. So yea, a good autocrosser should be fast in any car.

- my car is about 40 LBS from being nationally fully prepped. In Blytheville two weekends ago I finish one out of the trophys (6th) with 3 national champions in the class and 3-4 other guys that win national tours on the regular. So yea my car is quick.

I was joking at the race that I was going to get on here and joke around with you guys about the car. Reality is I love it and if I had the spare money it would be a great car to pick up to play around in. Granted I don't think it will be as fun as the S2000 on a autox course but I may be a bit bias. We have 3 locally that our going to run in our region and another guy has a BRZ on order. So four FT86's total.

Heres video of one of his runs...

Great car guys, I'm just busting your chops. I do really hope for the sake of the popularity of the car it goes to STX. I think it can put a smack down on the RX-8 in the hands of someone with the money to fully prep it and the skill to drive the car at the limit. If it goes to STR I don't think the car will be very popular due to it not being as competitive. Stock form I'm interested in how it does. Still not sure what class I think it should be in since all I know about is Bstock, Astock, and SS. I normally don't really care about any cars "slower" than that.

cheers

If this is because you're being asked to reduce your exhaust noise, it's a pretty low blow.

Try and at least keep your tantrums to our forums.

Um... So your car is close to fully prepped in that class huh. And the FR-S was stock minus some wheels and tires that were close to stock size?

And your telling me that it was 3.3 seconds slower than your car?

Sounds like your S2000 needs some more work if the FR-S is only 3.3 seconds behind you.

Its already been shown how easy it is to shave a couple of seconds off the FR-S with just the right suspension setup and no power mods.

I would be looking in teh rearview mirror with fear if I were you.

Troll bait aside. As has been said many times already, it is about 80% driver and 20% car. I go to porsche club Autocross events with my MR-S. And on the last event I attended, I beat every porsche there. Does that mean that my MR-S is faster than a 911 GT3? No. Not at all. Oh. The 5 people that beat me were driving: a 2003 350Z, 2007 Miata, 2002 MR-S, 2002 Mazda 3, and a 2006 EVO. Oh, the other MR-S that beat me was less modified and on street tires IIRC. It was a National level driver though.

This thread is purely troll bait. But if anything is to be gained from it is to know that the car doesn't matter in an autocross except when all drivers are equal. That's why, IMHO, most of the boy-racing is done at a drag strip where it's more about the car than about the driver. Autocross is a great, low-cost sport that helps teach great car control and provides an outlet to really push your car to its limits without much chance of crashing it or being arrested.
