I guess you learn something new everyday lol. Crazy how many small differences the same car can have.

I installed on of the custom ROMs last night and everything was working great. This morning I get no response from the touch screen or any of the front panel buttons Back to the drawing board.

Chosen the correct MCU update?
Which Rom do you try?

I updated the OEM Rom without mcu update, worked fine.

I found out that a app put some data on the music only USB stick, removed it and now instand music at start.

What's the difference if I get the Double Din Universal unit ( 7 inches) instead of the toyota unit?

Are there any pros and cons?

I guess a universal one would work in any new car you get in the future.

The universal unit is available with a larger, higher resolution screen at the expense of the dvd/cd drive. I believe there's also a universal version with more ram and android 5.x vs the 4.4 available on the Toyota version. For me though I didn't like the look of the double din spacers against the silver of the brz dash. They look much better with the darker frs dash trim, imo. I may try to design and build a replacement trim piece to match a double din opening, but I would probably do both sides so I can match the color /finish

Yes, bigger screen higher resolution and in case of Germany around 160-200€ cheaper because german shipping

I have the universal 7" one. From my understanding the Toyota one is practically a direct fit and has an optical drive for movies and music, and 6" screen.

The universal has no optical drive, slightly bigger screen size (they are also sold with two different resolutions) but isn't a direct fit into the dash. Others you may see in this thread modified their brackets to allow it to fit better. Oh and there can be gaps in the sides of it. I haven't done anything to the brackets so I have gaps on the left and right and the trim plastic doesn't clear the unit so it doesn't sit flush with the rest of the dash.

It isn't drastically noticeable but it's there. I know there are ways to fix it but I haven't seriously looked into it. I believe pictured a few post up is a universal that fits well.

Effectively the two units as far as internals are exactly the same. Comes to screen size and if you use CD's. Oh and trying to get a neat fitment, which I want to pursue now..

Hope this jumble of info helps a little.

If you order the universal ones then you need to add the toyota harness. If you get the toyota direct fit one, it includes the harness. All plug and play except for moving one of the pins in the harness.

Thank you

I'm not too good with this stuff. If you don't mind, can you post a link on where I can get the toyota harness?

http://www.metraonline.com/part/95-8202

Would this bracket work?

To get this correct..

Car wire - > Harness - > Head Unit - > Install Bracket - > mount screws

Thanks once again
