You're right. I've only done ~400 launches, must be a terrible idea.

Do you have 60' times?

In Lincoln in CS trim I pulled 2.1-2.2 60' on 245 Rival S. Launched around 5000 with lots of clutch slip and no wheel spin. Clutch didn't like that much but you have to avoid the torque dip and every time I spun my wheels was a bad 60.

On asphalt launching at 5k was an exercise in putting down parallel jet black strips at the start.

I personally plan to stock up on a spare axle for any prosolo events I do in STX.

That's exactly why i do a little wheelspin... I don't like the smell of clutch. I don't mind sacrificing a little time to reduce the beating it receives. Unfortunately I don't have 60' times. At one of our T&T events I might suggest they set the timing gear up for that though.

I've never smelled clutch, but I can tell after the 4th run that the clutch isn't quite as grabby.

I took the last CS trophy spot at last year's prosolo finale by just .110 (and the guy behind him was just another .024 back). Definitely would've lost a trophy and two positions if I hadn't been going for broke every run. For me every tenth is important and hardware considerations are secondary, hence the plan to carry a spare axle.

And for sure with a header and tune eliminating most of the torque dip, bogging down under 4000 isn't the end of the world like it is in CS trim (and that's my reaction to too much wheelspin, is to lift, but then you end up bogging). I'm hoping I can find a slightly more sane launch routine, but if I can't? Everything becomes a wear item...

Be thankful for your good fortune. It does happen. More so to STX cars. We typically run lowered cars which larger footprints. I recently bought a spare from someone who blew one up (not an autocrosser, but still lowered with wider wheels/tires) and went to the Driveshaft Shop axles to avoid further carnage.

I didn't intend to imply that it never happens. I'm well aware of the examples of failures among STX/CS/Not-even-competing cars. They're quite rare by most peoples' standards. I have a spare axle that I keep with me, but it's silly to pretend they're made of glass. Generally, they last really well.

I'm probably overly paranoid about the whole thing. On the positive side, I've never heard of one doing other damage to the car. It seems they tend to stay together even after breaking.

I don't run video. Aside from the ego boost of having a whole dozen people watch me drive on youtube, I've never gotten any value from it.

Here's spring nats pro from last year, when my codriver brought video:

Pardon the average driving, there's a couple mistakes made and the car had (unknown to me at the time) a loose front left hub to control arm nut which resulted in the car not wanting to turn right. This was the first time at Lincoln with the CS TRD package, Konis, and 245 BFGs. Ended up making some large adjustments at nats and the car worked a lot better. /excuses

EDIT: launches in the video were as follows.
Left side: RT .532, 60' 2.247
Right side: RT .514, 60' 2.223

Note that .500 is a perfect RT and .499 is a red light.
