That is just Darwinism at it's best! If you forget to turn your car off because you don't have a key in the ignition then you probably do a pile of other dumb shit as well.

My 13 year old daily driver accord in stock trim. I leave it running all the time when I go get a coffee and shit. Especially when it's cold out and can get the heat up. If someone really wanted to take it well shit I guess I'd be inconvenienced 1 day as I wouldn't be able to get to work. Insurance would cover it. And I could look for another DD? And I live in a well populated area with cameras everywhere. So I guess I would be contributing to society as the thief would most certainly be caught.
But Zi you could also be turning some kid into a thief that would never dream of stealing a car normally. You create an artificially easy opportunity for some kid to do something stupid. Even good people can be tempted by opportunity. I am NOT defending people that steal anything but that does not mean that others need to set them up for it.
I know that my insurance policy is very clear that if I leave my car unattended with the keys in it then I am not covered for theft. If it was I would have a new car every year!

True, although in this case there could be relatively innocent victims involved if there are others in the house that might, through a freak of genetics, actually have a brain.

The unfortunate fact is that Darwin award winners more frequently than not take out innocent people with them.
I recall reading someplace (I read too much to remember where) that most of the "facts" from that story were rebuked anyway. It was a huge Facebook clickbait a couple of years ago and even the big news chains fell for it.

They may have it for a week for forensics? For a stolen car? Did they find a body in the trunk or something?
London police would not even bother to look inside much less run it for prints and do forensics. They would call and say your car is here come pick it up and that will be $120 for towing please".
Some kids took an unlocked and running car for a joyride and they are not going to pump resources into finding them. We are not talking about hunting down a crack team of international car thieves here.

I'd love to jump on the sympathy train, but I can't, due to the idiotic circumstances.

You're lucky that didn't happen down Brantford/KW/Hamilton way. They'd have found your car, but it would have been a burnt out shell on or very near a reserve.

Curious about why the "I found your car" post was deleted.
Was there actually a missing car or was someone just bored?

Well if the addition of a panic button on the remote along with the central lock button on the passenger side isn't a clear indication of potential theft in North America (at least what the Japanese manufacturer thinks of here) then I don't know what is.

I guess in Japan you can leave the car running outside and hop out to grab a sushi with confidence.

I am much more interested in how "I ran in for 2 minutes came back and it was gone" turned into the plot from a B movie:

How could it possibly be his fault? It's the pizza shop guys, the plaza owners and the guys who made it an inside job. That's who the fault falls on. Fuck having responsibility and accountability for your own actions!

YRP crime map lists a vehicle theft at this location, date and time.. So I take my question back, and apologize for doubting. It just throws me off that the original post has no pics and only part of a plate number, and then the "found" post got deleted.

Yes it was his actions that made someone take it.

I agree leaving a key in it facilitates theft. But saying take accountability for his actions? So leaving your car running in a public place means you are intending it to be stolen and should have no recourse? Okay then...
