4. Fill the hole with lubricant, and cover the spring.
5. Replace all parts.

Just did this today, the grease will leak from the lockout when using it, but it seems to have helped. If anyone wants pictures let me know.
did this last week with white lithium spray on the spring, no help for me

I'm not sure if sprays will work. I used the grease included with the actual shifter (the permagrease in a syringe) and it seems to do a little more. I don't think a spray lubricant will hold the spring while the shifter is vibrating so much.

Try using a thicker grease, maybe white lithium?

I contacted Tom at Kartboy and he sent new bushings and O-rings to put where the short shifter connects to the linkage. I used lots of grease and the rattle is pretty much gone. I'd recommend you guys contact Kartboy, they have excellent customer service.

I went through this:
http://www.kartboy.com/x4/help.php?s...us&mode=update
He responds quickly and is very professional, he also said that the original bushings were too tight of a fit, and apparently these new ones will help. So far for me they have helped a lot.
