The catalytic converters that are included with aftermarket headers are usually high-flow cat converters. So you're not losing a substantial performance compared to a straight pipe and (at the same time) not polluting so much. Just having any catalytic converter instead of a test pipe really makes a big difference in reducing emissions, just unfortunate that those non-carb certified high flow cats doesn't meet the emission reduction requirements in California.

If not for the California Air Resource Board, it would be a total polluted burning hot place to live in SoCal.

Not everyone lives in California. Many states do sniffer tests but don't care about CARB compliance. A catted header with a higher-flow cat would provide modest performance gains and still probably pass a sniffer test.

The kit runs on stock headers. It's the overpipe that is changed. Front pipe that contains the stock cat are still there. That's why it's CARB legal. Does not modify any cats. And it being CARB legal, when you run the carb legal map on stock exhaust parts (aside from the overpipe that was modified), you should still be able to pass smog. And a cat is there to make it pass smog. People remove cats to increase performance, but increasing performances means increasing emissions as well. CA does not want to go back to the smoggy state it used to be.

The initial round of testing the oil drain was encouraging.

Just realized that I forgot to post my results after time on the dyno:

Again this is with a GTX2971R instead of the GT28 that the kit comes with, and at ~14 psi on ~E65. The whp vs vehicle speed plot of this same run actually shows the peak power at 361 whp and there were actually 3 different vaccum/boost leaks during this run that weren't found until later. I haven't been back on the dyno since then to see how the plot has changed, but it certainly feels even better with the leaks fixed. This is with the P&L catless header and a catted front pipe. I'm considering replacing the header with one that has shorter runners/piping to improve spool.

The 254whp run is final stage 1 results (with the GT28) on E65.
