2.8 L L44 V6
The L44 was produced from 1985 to 1988, replacing the LH7. It was the first transverse 2.8 L to utilize Multi-Port Fuel Injection, and was a High Output ("9-code") engine option for the higher performance A-cars, X-cars and the Pontiac Fiero. This engine produced 140 hp (104 kW) at 5200 rpm and 170 lb·ft (230 N·m) of torque at 3600 rpm.[1][2][3][4] This engine's camshaft and cylinder heads were later reused in the L32 3.4L engine.

Curb Weight:
1,176 to 1,265 kg (2,593 to 2,789 lb)

Gorgeous paint job, but could do without the racing stripes.

So I called a Toyota/Scion dealer to check about doing a test drive on the weekend and they didn't have any FRSes in stock, but the guy will call me later this week to let me know if any come in.

Then I called a Subaru dealer and he said they do have BRZs in, but that the auto is super rare and they only have a single used BRZ that I can test drive. So I made an appointment for that over the weekend.

I thought Autos aren't as rare since more people want manuals?

Not for this car. I vaguely recall a statistic mentioning something like 70% of 86s sold at that year were manuals. I think that might be true for a lot of enthusiast/sports cars.

Edit: I guess the point I was trying to make was that Subaru/Scion/dealers follow suit and don't stock as many autos to follow the market trends.
