I was talking to a bike cop (he's a family friend) and the Harley he was on had pipes on it. Double standards

Buy TRD tips.
Carry TRD parts pamphlet.
Show pamphlet to officer.
"But officer this is a factory option for this car in North America"
Possibly get away with it!

The other cool thing, is these initiatives/laws are written vaguely so that cops can use their judgement for what's too much. A friend of mine is a peel cop, and I asked him about this, he said to not do anything stupid while driving, and you won't have any problems.
The HTA is intentionally vague, and has exactly zero hard limits for noise. Not sure where people get the 95/96 dba limit from, in Ontario there is no specific number.

Even better, based on the HTA wording some cars are illegal 100% stock since they don't have baffled mufflers (SRT4's were notorious for this, I know a few people that were pulled over and ticketed numerous times in 100% stock cars).

If you're worried about it, don't go around revving high and giving it lots of gas in residential areas, or late at night, etc. Don't like that, get a quieter exhaust. Harleys are definitely louder, but they're generally not out in the middle of the night redlining around cities.

"It was built into the price of the car and is not shown separately"
Which is actually a true statement in my case!

The only time I have ever received any words from cops was when they told me my brakes were squealing and I should get them checked out....little did they know they are track pads #brakessquealbecauseracecar

Kind of the point I was making. Just that 95db seems to be the upper end of the acceptable limit, that's all. I'm firmly of the opinion that

1) if you're modding your car, either legally or illegally, be prepared to deal with whatever backlash comes.

2) don't drive like an idiot, and you probably won't be hasseled for anything.

Last year, I did a slow pull to redline in first to hear my new exhaust, SWAT team van took issue with it, and followed me. I was clearly in the wrong, so when they pulled up beside me at a red light and said "hey, you have a nice car and everything, but keep the noise reasonable". I said " noted, will do" and that was the end of that. No reason for me to say that they were ****s, because that could have been much worse for me.

Honestly, I know everyone has chimed in saying to just drive responsible and not be an idiot when it comes to excessive noise. Thats 100% true. Im running UEL headers, catless frontpipe and invidia n1 exhaust. It's VERY loud when you push it. I've driven around toronto and my hometown of milton LATE at night and even gone through police checks without an issue. Just don't be obnoxious and make alot of sound. Drive in a really high gear in town or populated areas and you'll be fine.

Truth. These damn Civic drivers with their straight-pipe soup-can exhausts, bouncing off the Rev limiter in a residential area at 2am are the real problem here.

Hell, back in the day, ALL cars were loud from the factory. Bone-stock muscle cars from the late '60s are louder than some modern cars that have an aftermarket exhaust on them.

exactly, it's just some people are only self minded and only think about how it affects themselves and noone else. Yes, to be honest its fine to drive around with a loud car. I know most of us do, but just be respectful in densely populated areas at night. People need to sleep, wake up early etc. It sucks how the immature ruin it for us who just enjoy our cars and sounds.

That said, it's tough to keep everyone happy, because now you've got those people who work the graveyard shift cursing you up and down as they try to fall asleep at 11am...

But you're right. A lot of these losers make their car loud so everyone looks at them. Meanwhile, we all know that 90% of the cars owned by the people in this grouping sound like absolute dog shit (who in their right mind thinks a car with a CVT automatic sounds good with a fart-can on it?!).

Then there's those of us (most of us here included, I hope) who just genuinely enjoy the sound of a good-sounding car with it's throat cleared. And I think the latter group is a lot more responsible than the former.
