Isn't there a way to specially tag your wheels so if you do find them on another ride and report it stolen they could actually get prosecuted for it?

I'm reviving this thread - I would have just gotten wheel locks from the dealer had they had any in stock. Please post your luck (good and bad) with any sets of wheel lug locks.
Just an extra layer of security (thief will go to the next easiest target).

Hah I have a feeling that if you live in a state with more than 5 cars, you will never see your stolen wheels again.

Since I gladly paid MSRP for my car I got my dealer to throw them in for free...you may want to try that...they are like $50 retail which means they cost the dealer less than half of that.

Eh, if someone wants to steal them they will. It's just a spline drive socket. Buy one from mcGard and you can take someone's wheels off. Those do come with locks though, so I suppose that's two levels of security.
Wait, people use 12 point sockets?! I've only ever used 6 due to decreased propensity to shear bolt heads and nuts. |

I've always been told that true thieves wont be deterred by wheel locks since you can just take a 12-pt socket and hammer it onto the wheel lock and remove the wheel lock that way. You sacrifice the socket but I think that is the least of a thieves concerns. Sockets are cheap compared to how much they can pawn the rims/tires for.
