Wheel locks ?

Since Wheel locks were listed as an option..
I guess its safe to say they DO NOT come standard...

I did not opt to buy the wheel locks ..
but I do plan on buying an after market set from Mcgard

Any idea on size ? Lug nut ? lug bolt ?
since its 5x100 size ... should I look at
an older WRX (late 90s ? ) for size guild ?

Or should I just wait till the car comes out
then pick up a set at dealership ?

Wheel Locks were the only option I ordered with my car...

Are the wheel locks offered by dealerships UNIQUE? Or are they all the same and use the same socket? I've always wondered this.

They're unique in that they suck. They're mostly rebranded McGards or Gorilla locks.

Where do ppl buy those wheel locks that are blue colored? I always see 'em on those hellaflush cars. And instead of having the star shape, they're more like donuts in that they have a hole instead, and I'm guessing the star is wayyyy deep inside? So they look like inverted sockets?

ohh than can someone post a link to a set that will work ?
like this for example http://www.amazon.com/McGard-24152-Chrome-Wheel-Thread/dp/B000COMX18/ref=au_pf_ss_1?ie=UTF8&Model=Impreza|62&n=15684181 &s=automotive&Make=Subaru|13&Year=1999|1999&carId= 005

maybe this will fit .. and at $20 bucks only
5x100 for 1999 impreza ? so should be the same 5x100 for the BRZ ?

Yeah those are pretty much the typical locks from a dealer, but with the car brand's name instead and McGards in small print and a much higher price. I don't believe stud size and thread pitch have been confirmed, but current Subarus use 12x1.25 and I would assume they'd be the same.

Just wait until it's confirmed, no need to buy now.

Just one of a few hundred online places to buy tuner lugs/locks. Myself, I'm currently using black MXP open ended that come with 4 seven lugs that act as locks.

Only use conical lugs with wheels designed for them (aftermarket lug centric) and acorn lugs for wheels designed for them (oem hub centric).

I was looking into Rimlox or the Gorilla Guard free spinning ones. The advantage of the Rimlox is that they'll buy you a new set if your wheels get stolen while using their locks. There's also the Project kics locks which are magnetic, but I've seen some videos of people undoing those with ease.

I'm not sure how hot these wheels will be compared to, say, G37 19" sport wheels, but for the most part I think we'd be safe. They look generic enough for people not to want them. It would be a good idea to get a set of locks anyway and possibly a tilt sensor depending on where you live *ahem*NY, LA...Brockton*ahem*

Not sure how useful wheel locks actually are. I've heard more stories of shops annihilating wheels because of locks than wheels actually being stolen from a car.

This is true, for some reason I was thinking aftermarket wheels. I've never thought of locking OEM wheels before.

Turbowned 03-28-2012 01:51 PM

I hope someone steals my wheels. Then I can get reimbursed by insurance to buy some wheels that don't look so fugly! Hahaha

But seriously, the wheel locks offered by Subaru and most dealers are just McGard or Gorilla Guard, which come in about 20 or so lock combinations. So the person attempting to steal your wheels would have to have a stolen master key set, which you could get by stealing from a dealership but it's a slim chance.

Ya ya that's what I want. Or should I not, Dave?
