Sound While Idle

So I've been having this strange sound from the rear that sounds like a hum or whine in the vehicle only while in drive or manual mode and stopped. I drive an AT so the car automatically lurches forward with no brake, so I wedged it on a speed bump to stop the car without the use of the brakes and I still hear the noise. I feel like it could be from the rear but I'm not positive (it's not all that loud). Keep in mind that I don't hear it in neutral or park, only in drive and manual, and it goes away when driving, regardless of how slow.

Anyone have any idea?

My educated guess:
Exhaust resonance that only hits the right frequency to be heard under the conditions you described. Any slight change in those conditions and it goes away.

Think it could be a thing with stock exhaust?

Without a doubt. The lack of soundproofing let's you here every little burble these things make.
Try siting in gear until you hear it and then give it just a touch of gas. I bet it goes away.

Yeah that's exactly it. It does seem to resonate the same tone the engine is making. Any way to fix it? It's started happening a month or so ago (I've owned the car since September) and it's incredibly frustrating

Nope. There is nothing to fix since it isn't broke. As the exhaust ages it will change tones. Just wait it out and it will go away.

You can take a look at all the mounts and make sure nothing is rubbing but odds are it is internal.

You're lucky. All I hear are crickets and mine are loud. Spring must be mating season for our cars.

The ATs seem to be more prone to drone as well, I had the berk muffler delete for the longest time would get occasional drone. Gave it to a friend with a manual literally 0 drone as the RPMs are more easily controlled.....
