Waste my money on an OFT?? Those are some harsh words...I currently have an OFT and love it. Really concerning to hear a mod say this. I believe Open Flash is an official sponsor on the boards.

Mods are allowed to have their own opinion. It goes downhill when they actively prevent sponsers on the forum because of bias.
Just because they said to not waste your time with OFT is not a personal attack on you or how you decided to spend your money. They are literally telling you how it is. The absolute most gains come from a custom tune. OFT is great for convience and alot of other things and is perfect for some people, but if youre looking to get the most out of your current settup, only custom dyno tunes usually benefit more. Welcome to the internet, have thicker skin.

Why pinpoint only OFT? Didn't I write front pipe too? Or you purposely miss that? If you have OFT and you love it, good for you. If you have front pipe and you love it, good for you as well. Does anything else matters? It's YOUR car, do whatever you want. Or MY opinion matters on YOUR car? Every parts have pros and cons, but if you want to pinpoint ONLY the OFT, then sure, I'll answer. Iirc you were asking for exhaust setup to work with SC kit. Custom mapping OFT can run it, but EcuTek can do more. You miss my point, so I'll rewrite it better. My point is; Get custom map by doing dyno tune, you'll get more power out of it. |

If were talking NA 86/brz here then their is pretty well no difference in what you can do with OFT/Romraider and Ecutek tuning wise (yes ecutek has more fancy features) but most of them you don't need NA. You can dyno tune with OFT/Romraider its just a system to flash and edit tunes like Ecutek just without licences and locks. From what I have seen on NA cars custom dyno tunes provide very little benefit over a decient canned or off the shelf tune be that provided by oft or ecutek tuner. In fact on dyno days here street tuned oft guys smoked the local tuners dyno tuned cars consistently on both petrol and E85. your only hassle is that many tuner wont tune with OFT/romraider or tactrix/ecuflash as its opensource and they cannot lock their tunes. It not a limitation of the device or system its just tuners don't want to use it. If we move to Boosted cars then yes ecutek has the edge at present. But that's being cut back as well as the opensource guys now have Overboost Cut Speed Density and Flex fuel. The OFT guys are currently finalising testing of the opensource flex fuel tunes for their turbo kits. I have Ecutek as well :-) . |

Here is the deal short and sweet, F/I needs to breath so big exhaust and good cam timing. In other words front pipe and great tune are going to yield the best results. N1 vs Q300 no big deal. Something to think about if your really concerned with power why go vortech? Jackson will make more power, along with edelbrock. A lot of other choices out there that can make vortech look like a bitch.......
