People still look at me funny towing a 5x8 trailer packed with dirt bikes but the car actually has plenty of power for lighter loads, even in places like the Sierra Nevada or Rockies at high altitude.
There are a couple of other guys that tow and to the best of my knowledge they have never had issues either.

Sounds like a memorable drive. Nice that everything worked out well.

I've towed with an Integra, Mazda3, Evo, WRX. I'd have no trouble deciding to tow with this car if I needed to.

Doesn't the Canadian owner's manual have a section on towing?

Someone sells a hitch setup that attached to the rear tow hook points... don't remember who though... much classier than an under carriage hitch

That is too much for this car. I tow <800lb without reservation, but the strain being put on the driveline with 1500lbs extra would be significant.

You are getting away with it. Others may not.

And the reality is, 9k miles isn't much. It's fine now, but where will it be down the road compared to a non-tow vehicle?

My Honda accord is rated at 1000 lbs towing. I wouldn't go over that. I made a towhook hitch just so I can drive my fr-s to the lake and be able to put my jetski in the water.

Don't have pics on hand. With 1000lbs I would get about 26-28 at 65mph. 6th gear is fine unless you're in the mountains. Sometimes would have to drop to 5th or 4th.
