jdl header / tune questions
Current setup, Perrin 2.5 resonated CBE. (Massachusetts resident)
I'm looking to buy a JDL uel header (coated) and pair it with OFT. I'm thinking about getting the catted version, but OFT stage 2 is created for cattless and i'm wondering what complications could occur from running the stage 2 catted. I really don't want to buy the header and run stage 1. Also note that this will be my first experience in any car tuning. I know i can get a custom tune from shiv, but I don't necessarily want to go that direction. how much potential power will I "lose" from running catted? i've read rasps/smells can occur with cattless and i don't want to encounter that. any extra help would be great. |

In for answers as well. I live in NC and our emissions inspections would force me to go with a catted header, from what I have heard.

I dont think its worth getting a catted header unless you want to try and change the sound up a little (correct me if I am wrong, I live in redneck nation where we all run catless). The tune alone will make slight gains so thats worth doing.

thanks for the info, seems like some mixed thoughts. I had that link previously saved before, but haven't had a chance to read through the whole thing yet.
I would hate to buy the header to only run stage 1, but i am hesitant to run cattless. i would run cattless just i am not sure about smells that people refer to, i certainly don't want to encounter that. Rasps are another negative to me, but i do have stock op/fp and resonated perrin 2.5 cbe, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad? Ultimately, I want to run my car with safety in mind first to avoid unexpected expenses. Last edited by dtrop; 03-31-2016 at 01:03 PM. |

I'm not sure about the laws in Mass. Here in TX we don't have a sniffer test--they only plug into the OBD2 and check the emission system readiness. We're allowed to have one show "not ready" and still pass. Of course a CEL is insta-fail. Catless is doable here because the tune will disable certain CEL codes and all systems will still show "ready." Look into your state's inspection procedures and see if you can do the same. I considered getting a catted header for a while because I was afraid of inspections. But I didn't want to half-ass anything, so I went catless. No regrets. |

I had the same question myself about running stage 2 with a catted JDL uel, I'm still waiting on my headers to come in the mail , but from what other members, who have our jdl catted set up or have more knowledge on the subject matter, all seem to agree on is that running the stage 2 map doesn't present any glaring issues. I pm'd shiv to see if there are any possible long term negative effects of running the stage 2 uel catless tune with a catted header and am still waiting for a response, but if it comes down to it I might just end up getting an etune from shiv just to be safe as well as get a little more

running a catted jdl uel with an OFT stage 2 tune for a month now...no glaring issues that I can notice physically but I just started data logging my commutes to and from work to see if there's any issues internally. Will be posting results here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103534
