Please provide a reputable source that the Juke Nismo RS is Nissan's twin fighter. I'd say that's taking aim at the MazdaSpeed 3, which doesn't exist anymore.

Because traditionally Nissan was a company that did offer up real sports cars for a decent price, just like Toyota. And just like Toyota, there's a large following and enthusiast segment for the company, especially concerning the S-chassis line.

So when Toyota revives a car in market segment thought to be dead, and Nissan just goes "meh", well, people's hearts get broken. When hearts get broken, peeps be mad.

It's okay man I feel the same way about Honda now as you do with Nissan.

I moved on and bought a Toyota designed Subaru.

Maybe a more "compact" 370z with 4cyl engine turbo. Like Datsun 280z

That sounds nothing like the 280Z.

As much as I would like that, the Z doesn't even need to compete with the twins. It's a great package at a great price and a lot of people who are looking for more power from factory would choose the z.
Well you hit the nail on the head.

There is no need for a new silvia because they already have the Z.
  • The Z34 has been with us for 8 years now, it's long overdue for a refresh
  • Nissan Already has the GT-R as a flagship car so now the Z35 can afford to come down in price.
  • Nissan has Infiniti to fight Lexus and BMW so no need to gear up the Z35 to match those specs
  • The Z has been Nissan's "Driver's car" since jump.

So if Nissan is going to build a twins fighter it will most likely be the Z35

Nissan pretty much made the template for the twins when it made the S13 240SX/Silvia. Now Subayota makes a better, modern S13, maybe Nissan figures they can't do better

I always thought that the Z32 *should* have been a 2700 lb. 2-seat S13 with a V6 instead of a 3400+ lb. 2-seat version of the J30. Further disappointment with the 350Z and 370Z, which inherit WAY too much bulk and weight from the G35/G37 luxury sedans they were made out of.

A new 86ish Silvia and a smaller/lighter-weight Z based on that would have been brilliant. Too bad...

Toyota and/or Subaru ought to make a genuine sub-2800 lb. cab-rearward 50/50 sports car out of the 86, and steal some of the overfed Z's thunder!

The Z isn't really a driver's car though. It's a competent all-around sports car, but it's overweight and the engine, although having decent power, isn't that amazing. It's a fairly good car, but it's more like a Japanese Mustang than a Silvia/240sx/GT86.

It's more like the S14 than S13/S15. Long wheelbase and wide track... but longer wheelbase and wider track than even the S14 by a good amount.

Another interesting difference between the s-chassis cars and the 86 cars is that the s-chassis cars had a wider front track than rear track, whereas the 86 is the opposite. It has a wider rear track.

It drives more like an S13, which is a good thing! My '91 240SX had just about the best-feeling power-steering I've ever experienced. My '94s steering was vague and rubbery and NUMB. Also, engine-wise my '91 happily pulled to indicated 7200 rev limiter, whereas my '94 fell flat above 6000.

I loved my '91, but the '94 was a disappointment, nowhere near as engaging or fun to drive.

Minor differences in wheelbase and front/rear track width stagger aren't the major players here, IMO. The 101" wheelbase 86 behaves more like the 97" wheelbase S13 than the 99" wheelbase S14.
