I'm $47 into this at this point. $3 more and I'm over budget
Yeah, I think I was after better sound and lighter than stock axel back. I've achieved both. Good luck with your mod. Its fun to tinker and have success at it.

OK,,, did a bit of playing around with the IPhone DB meter on my wife's phone, certainly seems to work based on my WROOM WROOM noises. I should be able to show a difference between the two,, that is stock versus my modified muffler but in the end it'll be hard to tell. The fact is you'll need to base the sound level on all the mufflers to really get an idea. I also cut the plates to cover all of the holes in the OEM baffles. The question is do I cover all of the holes,, that is both sides or not. If I cover both sides,,, does it become a muffler delete?? I mean the sound waves will be bouncing around a bit but will it be too much??? I should have it done and welded up this weekend,, after building the fence so we'll see.....

My friend did it, cut open the muffle at the OEM welding points, remove the perforated pipes inside and replace them with an straight Y-pipe, weld back again, just that.

yeah, the fun thing is, in Switzerland the maximum allowed noise level for this car is 79db(A), measuered 0.5m from the exhaust in an 45 degree angle at 50% if max RPM (in this case 3750rpm) on a wamed up car/exhaust

my mod reaches only 78 by measuring it like above...however accelerating and decelerating change it to 103db

It sounds quite good, makes me wonder why it wasn't done from the factory. I'm assuming it's because in a majority of places where the car may be sold the decibel rating may be even lower

I welded in the plates covering the holes in the baffles. Plates may be too strong a word for 22 gauge metal as I kept burning holes through it. If there was a next time I'd use something thicker as it sure make it easier. I ended up covering most on the one side and half of the other. Hope it's not too loud,, don't really want that. The fence post caps are supposed to be here today, if so I'll try to get those in and weld it up by tomorrow.

I want to gut it all out and like stated above just kind of do some perforated piping that splits into a y for the exits.
