I'm a fan of the 2017. Guess I'm in the small crowd.

Just noticed the refresh has a more aggressive front splitter which is nice. Also .. The front side vents could be interpreted as canards.
Wonder if the upper front grill lip has any aero designed into it. If not ... Why is it there?

After seeing the non-renderings online from the NY auto show, I'd vote for the new 86.
I have a feeling most people feel the same way but the owner bias is too strong.

I think you answered your own question. "More aggressive" seems to be popular on slow cars.

I don't dislike the new styling, but as of right now, I still prefer the more simple design of the FR-S. I do like that LED headlights are standard now though.

Now where my buyer bias kicks in - I bought the FRS as a simple DD coupe and had no delusions of racecar and the current flowing lines and interaction of the body panels of the car kept it to a beautiful design that did not scream "I am going to eat all the other cars on the road". Now it puts on a face that it's performance just can not live up to and to ME it makes it a pretender. Having said that I have little doubt that people buying this will say the FRS was way to plain for them.

In a lot of boxes that would be checked for "performance", its certainly no pretender. Besides, the performance of the kouki version has yet to be determined. |

Rephrase - fast car The NEW version will not be that much more of a speedster to warrant that front end.

The way I see it; no other manufacturer has stepped up to the plate to create a small FR hardtop sports coupe to challenge the twins in their own price range. The Miata is excluded (Even with the RF version coming out) because its a convertible. So, since the twins sit alone, they honestly can't pretend to be anything other than themselves. THEY are the performance benchmark for sub $30k, sub 3000lbs FR Sports Coupes. |

I think this is the most accurate opinion on it so far. The one thing I really like about the car is what I like about my Celica, too. It's a car that most people that know nothing about cars won't take too much notice to. its enough that it draws a bit of attention and its distinguished from just any average car on the road, but it's not super flashy or demanding people to look at it. The refresh veers away from that and is trying to stand out. And that's something a lot of people like, but it's just a completely different target group. Especially as was mentioned the car can't really live up to the standards that target group holds.

It is exactly the reasons that you have stated that turn me off that front end. This is not a super car and it does not need to dress up like one to prove it's self. I am not for one second telling others they should think the same as I do nor asking for anybody to agree with me. I was simply stating why I (me, myself, mon, nobody else implied) don't like it.

SFR>86
Scion has better front look and rear. Ill take a SFR over 86. 86 is ugly as heck. I expected more. Gonna wait for FT-1. Better not have sesame street nose at end.
