Ok, so I thought I did my research on this but apparently not enough? Is this really true?
- Question posted: "I was talking to a tech at my work and he said engine braking can increase oil blow by in the motor by a lot...true or false" - One of the replies: ![]() Now, I engine brake all the time (along with using my actual brakes, of course). Mostly because I want to hear the exhaust while coming to a stop. |

Ya if you are getting that much oil past everything meant to keep oil where it is supposed to be then engine braking is probably the least of your problems.

Just remember brake pads are what? $20 $60? A new engine is like $5k sooo unless it's life or death just use your brakes!

So I recently discovered a fair amount of blow by on my breather tube. I dont engine break but I do downshift sometimes when slowing and do a fair amount of hard driving mostly using partial throttle. Discussing it with guys that know more they said driving partial throttle causes more blow by then full throttle.
Basically if you can see oil residue on your breather tube (small line branching off just before the throttle body) then you could benefit from a catch can. Still figuring out if mounting it to the PCV is better (I think it will help more but need to do more research) |
