It is obvious that they are trying to carry on the idea as you have already pointed out so, with that being the case.

AE86 Levin

AE92 Levin

AE101 Levin

AE111 Levin

And now they brought it back to rear wheel drive. Call it it an AE121 Levin or something. Don't call it an 86, that's a different car and it's cheesy to need to reminisce with the revival of that number.

No engine? What? They already had a fantastic engine fully developed and ready to port into the new chassis. It was underpowered in the Altezza, but it would have shined in the new Levin.

And it's proven to fit.

Unfortunately, Toyota forgot how to build a lightweight RWD sports car. They were so desperate they had to ask Subaru to do it and they haven't built something that just spun the rear wheels in a long freakin time. That must have drove them up the wall just leaving the front tires to steer and brake and not pull the car along. They did a great job, though. Whoever did which part, well done. Whoever thought the sound tube thing up, though, the FC3S RX7 cold solder guy thinks you suck. Yeah, it's that weak.

Igloos, no, that's Alaska. Hockey and maple syrup shots, eh?

You picked a very special first car. Don't ever let it go and stay on top of that rust. I didn't have one of those until years later and mine was in terrible condition and I never got to enjoy it like I know they can be enjoyed. I spent my 20s beating on R30 Skylines and my 30s on R32s. I always sort of despised the 86s because it seemed like you always won in one of those. If you lost to a fast car, of course, that's expected, no foul, but if you got over on a faster car you made them look foolish.

I only ever beat 86s at their game twice. Once in my wife's AE101 with the silvertop 20 valve and another time in my S13 Q CA18DE. That car was awesome. I gutted it it down to the front seats and a dashboard and there was no AC or power steering. It was, essentially a bigger hachiroku and that one I ran was upset. He knew it was a Q, he had to, it sounded like his car with just a hair more roar and no turbo noises and it must have pissed him off that I was spankin his ass. Then my buddy's shoes started to melt. HKS header, no wrap and an uncarpeted steel floor.
I do see your point and I agree with you, but all those Levins but 1 are FWD. Lol

My AE86 had a 20v AE111 blacktop swap xD Awesome little thing but around the 5th year mark; I also took in a 2000 MR-S... Then I decided to sell both for the BRZ haha.

I do miss them, but I sold them for the reason the AE86 was just a money pit, more money was dumped into it for maintenance than anything else. The MR-S was just waaayyy too small with no trunk lol.

And, man, the torque steer was insane in those too. That supercharger model was a real pistol, perfect power profile for the car. I got to drive a hachi one time with a supercharger motor swap, what a blast!

never got the chance to drive an MRS, but I was really tempted to get one. They look like they have a lot of potential.

Actually we hardly have any flat ground at all. Makes for a lot of wonderfull roads

And from what I've read elsewhere, hill hold assist function requires one to give more gas than usual in order to get the computer to release the brakes, and it doesn't feel fluid when starting the car.

Buddy had an early 90s legacy that had Hill assist. It didn't feel very smooth and ya more gas needed. It's prolly been refined since then thou

I had hill assist on my last Subaru (2012 Impreza). You barely notice it.

If you are driving the car right you should barely notice it. If you can tell it is there all the time then you are going to have a bad time if you go to drive a car that doesn't have it.

My forester has hill start assist. You don't notice it. On a steep hill sometimes it holds the brakes for an additional 1-2 seconds and everything is normal. If you drive normally you will hardly notice it. If you screw around with it, on a hill with your foot off the brake you'll stay still like your foot was on the brakes for 1-2 seconds.... it surprised me the first time it did it, I have never noticed it since.

It might help the handbrake hill start manual drivers though?

Sounds like they have refined it then. I still maintain that it's not needed at all if you know what your doing with a manual.

It definitely isn't needed, but don't start another "handbrake hill start" debate. If you know what you're doing with a manual the handbrake is the proper way to take off now. It is in the vehicle manual.

The hill start assist is just an automatic way of doing that maneuver. That is all it is. I was surprised that my 09 forester had it but my 14 BRZ didn't, lol.

Good that it's just hill hold assist and steering wheel controls, not auto rev match and pre-recorded engine sounds.

Sure. It will help the to never learn how to make a proper hill start, so that they'll be completely screwed if they ever drive a manual car without it. It's a good way for the manufacturers to trap customers into only buying new cars that have the technology.
