Twins vs M2

I'm just not having an emotional desire for the car. Not now that it's out. I find the Camaro SS and GT350R much more interesting looking and sounding. Course I just got another electric car, so what do I know.

Thanks so much for this informative review!! Sounds a fantastic car and perhaps one day in not too distant future I might just get one. Until then I'm happy with the 86 and plan on developing my car further.

Understandable. The thing I like about the M2 is that it really is a modern day E46. What's funny is you look at the specs and you realize the car isn't really much lighter than the M3/4, but because of the shorter wheelbase, and the way it's tuned, the car feels so much more nimble and eager to rotate and and turn in. I had a couple instances really hard under braking where I could feel a little bit of movement in the rear cause the wheel wasn't 100% straight and the car was giving the feedback on what it wanted to do. It's fun, but predictable.

You're welcome. It really is awesome. It's only real shortcoming to me are the seats. I feel like the car should have just gotten the M seats. But, what can you do? I don't really like the idea of buying a 50k car and wanting to change out the seats.

To be fair though, I didn't notice it so much when driving. Perhaps it was because I had the wheel to hold on to and the knee pads to brace myself a bit. On the passenger side though, I was like "holy shit", I'm practically falling out of this seat. For reference, I'm 5'10" and 180lbs. You can adjust how wide or narrow the bolstering is, but I just couldn't find a setting that really helped me feel secure inside the seat.

Yeah i was really annoyed when i found out the M3/4 seats weren't used. You can get those seats in a 320i so def not special enough for a £45k car. You mention that there's not much weight diff compared to the F80 but felt a lot more agile..What does it feel like compared to the Frs? Please can you tell me what the driving position was like? i read somewhere that the 2 series coupe has a bit of a high driving position I know it won't feel as low as our cars but did it feel sporty?

It felt very sporty to me. It weighs in around 3500lbs with the DCT, so it's no light weight. But it manages it well. For comparison, my '16 STI is a touch over 3400lbs, but the M2 (which is heavier on paper) felt considerably lighter.

As far as the seating position goes, no; it isn't lower than the FRS, but it's still very good. I put my seat all the way down and tilted it back a little bit to enhance the bucket seat effect, and it felt great. I felt pretty low to the ground and the driving position is bang on. Because of all the available adjustments you can make between the seat and wheel, it's easy to find a perfect, comfortable position.

Another question mate! if you don't mind Did the handling ever feel nose heavy with the I6 up front? I've read in mags here that the M235i & M135i can sometimes feel this way..

The car felt very well balanced to me. Not nose heavy by any means. Neutral handling characteristics. The steering did feel a bit on the light side, in terms of weight, so maybe that helped really mask the sensation of feeling nose heavy.

I honestly doubt it though. The M235i is close to 50/50, but is a bit nose heavy. The M2 is nearly bang on 50/50 exactly. It doesn't feel any more nose heavy than an FRS/BRZ does, which didn't really feel nose heavy to me at all.

Hmm sounds well balanced then but this light steering you mention concerns me as i like a weightier feel and the reports suggested the M2 had just that. I find in the dry my 86 to be sufficient but feels too light when raining or damp. So it felt light even on the sport + setting?

Yes; That's why I mentioned I liked the steering of my STI better. It uses a hydraulic system and a tight rack, so the steering feels fairly heavy and confident. I love it.

The M2 is definitely on the light side, but it isn't terrible. I'd say about the same as the FRS in terms of weight.

When going straight in the FRS i sometimes feel a lack of weight off center but i think that's when the roads are damp. Generally though feel quite happy with the overall weight of the FRS steering so if the M2 is similar i can live with that. I agree though on Hyd racks being the best, i used to have a Clio 16v from 1992 which had superb go-kart style steering. Thanks again for the info

I kinda like the M2...

I love driving the FR-S though especially on an empty mountain road

But then I love driving my E92 M3 as well, just letting that V8 wind out to 8600rpm is really addicting...

Would love an E90M3!! Nice that you have an E92! what's handling like compared to FRS?


The FRS is a lot of fun, there are times when I wish it had a little more grunt but on the whole I've been happy. Wouldn't say I'm IN LOVE with it though lol perhaps after more mods...


I think I'm going to get an M2 if its possible in late 17..
