I was looking to MLV the trunk floor mainly because I wasnt even sure how to get to the seat back lol. I know the bottom of the rear seats are easily removed, haven't seen how to get under the back cushion though. Or are you saying I should just put a layer of MLV directly on the back (i.e. it'd be visible from the trunk or if i folded down the seat)?
The resonator, probably 2-3 hrs of labor at you local muffler shop, but I bet they could do it in less.

To lay the sound deadening on the back seat, remove the carpet from the rear seat back and lay it under there, then place the carpet back over it. Also place a layer of all 3 materials on the rear deck under the 3rd brake lamp area.

Didn't realize the carpet could be removed lol. Guess I need to take a closer look. Makes sense that its removable though.

Alright since this thread helped me a little bit I'm going to bring it back to life and make things a little clearer incase I'm not the only idiot on this forum.

For putting MLV on the back of the back seat, it's easiest to fold the seat down and then pull the 4 clips in the fabric straight out. The two up near the pull straps don't come all the way out. The two at the bottom do. Once the clips are out, pull the pull straps out too. This is as close to "removing the carpet" as you're going to get without causing damage to the seat back.

Now you can make a 39" x 16.5" sheet of MLV and CCF and bond them. I then used tyvek sheathing tape on the edges to help keep them from getting caught on the fabric. Pick a side of the seat and slide it behind the carpet once it's in you can push the top clips in against it to leave a mark for you to cut around so they can pass through the mlv/ccf. The bottom clips I just cut a square to go around the clip rather than pass the clip through since they're so close to the edge. And don't forget to cut a slit for the pull straps and pass them back through before you put the clips back in.

Made a little bit of a difference for me. Going to do the rear deck and under the back seats next to see if that helps any more.

Ooh thanks. Keep us updated, I'm interested in the results.

Getting pretty good at this cutting mlv to fit shit. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures so I'll just have to describe what I did.

Did the rear deck lid tonight after work. I've got a 5 hour drive tomorrow and another sunday. I want as little drone as possible.

Cut out an MLV section to fit underneath the panel with a 4 pop clip holes, 2 seatbelt anchor holes, and one hole for the support beam farthest back. Did the same with the ccf, I'm sure you all know the drill. Took the time to put some ccf underneath the remote transponder box since that's apparently a source of rattles and then threw a few pieces of CLD on the thinner sections of metal. Put the CCF/MLV on top and then clipped the deck lid back down.

Putting the panels back together and making sure there are no gaps is a bitch and a half. But the result seems to have been worth it. Started the car up and it sounds about the same as when I did the seat back. Blip the throttle and this time instead of drone it's almost like I can hear the exhaust with the induction noise. I can even hear the pops and gurgles which I sure as hell could not before. Going to dinner shortly so we'll see if it's noticeably different on the road.

In total I've made a second trunk mat out of CCF/MLV which is layered underneath the OEM hardboard trunk mat and then the subaru all weather mat. Put a layer behind the carpet on the seat back. And put a layer under the rear deck lid where the third brake light is. I think it's definitely made a pretty good difference in the overall amount of noise coming from the rear of the car. Definitely think the trunk is a resonance nightmare and sealing it from the cabin is the best thing you could do.

Awesome man. Now I just needa find some time and space to do this over the summer. I wonder if I can pull off doing this while double parked outside my apartment lol. Its a fairly wide 2 lane street that sees very little traffic.
