Redlinegoods steering cover wrap
Hey gang,
Has anyone here had DIY experience installing one of these? Planning to pick one up ( nappa perforated plus solid leather combo) and doing the install but would be great if someone could share their experience. How's the quality and how did it turn out? Did you get the foam wrap and did it turn out better with a thicker grip? Does the stock wheel have any padding underneath the original cover already? Thanks guys!!

I ended up ordering the wrapped nappa + nappa PRF. I'll document the install and process once I'm done.

I ordered and did the alcantara wrap on mine. Overall it's not bad, but it does have some imperfections that bother me.. I'll probably get it redone by JPM before too long. It was only like $70 when I ordered it way back when. Looks like prices have gone up since then.

The back side of the 3-6 spokes aren't as tight as I'd like and have a little wrinkling. I had to remove the factory vinyl to fit the alcantara which I'd have rather wrap over it. There were a couple of spots where it kind of over lapped more than it should.
Really the 3 and 6 o'clock spokes are the only things that bother me. That and having to take off the factory vinyl/leather because it made the wheel much smaller, but they appear to have an option for that now. |

Yeah I've got a core that'll be here tomorrow. I'm going to take it off and see about redo-ing my wrap. But if it doesn't come out how I want, I'm sending it to JPM and letting them do their thing with it.

TLDR;
Wrap took a few attempts to get it right because I couldn't DIY, ultimately having their professional installer do it for me. It's been 4 months since I got this project started and it was something that I originally thought I'd be able to tackle as a DIY. HOWEVER, despite my DIY experience or lack of steering wheel wrapping experience there of, I wasn't able to get this to work. After putting on the foam wrapping, the leather wouldn't fit right. I'm sure there's some fudging that needs to happen to compensate for the custom skin as it's not going to be perfect. Redlinegoods was super responsive and helpful in providing help and working to get things sorted out. The original wrap was larger than expected and it wouldn't seat correctly around the thumb grip/spoke area. If you pushed in the excess, it would lift up on the spoke. Redlinegoods sent me a second wrap which was smaller, but on my attempt, it was now too small. I couldn't get the wrap to meet at the seams around the spokes. Redlinegoods suggested I send the wheel/wrap to their professional installer Nora, which I did. She did it the first time around but found the foam wrapping wasn't quite right. So Redlinegoods sent Nora another foam wrap set and she redid the foam wrapping and rewrapped the cover. I had the wrapped wheel sent back to me just recently and finally had it installed. A big thank you and shoutout to Redlinegoods for getting me through end to end. I firmly believe they support their product 100% and have customers as #1. So how does it feel? Well, it's beefy. I'm 5'7" asian and don't have big hands, so its definitely feels much larger than stock. It feels almost a little too big for me at the 3 o'clock/6 o'clock area if you grip tightly. I find I have to loosen my grip a bit to feel more comfortable. The rest of the wheel feels about the right size. The leather is wonderful, the same feel as what you get in your MB/Benz, but I'm driving a Subaru The foam wrapping itself is a tad squishy, so it feels softer overall. It's not bad, but again, it's something that takes getting used to since the stock wheel is hard.stock vs wrapped http://1drv.ms/21eILNC installed http://1drv.ms/21eIQ3D

That looks pretty good. Was quite excited at the price of $129 but that quickly blew up to almost $300 after adding the options. Still might consider it though.
@RedlineGoods do you provide sample materials? |
