FRS->M4?
I had the pleasure of driving a brand new BMW M4 recently. It was a blast to say the least. The M4 is the highest performance vehicle I have ever driven (I know...), and it brought up a question in my mind: What would it take to make an FRS have M4 like perfomace? Assuming equal drivers, are we talking bolt ons like KW V3's, tires, pads, lines, supercharger, etc? Or are we talking custom valved coilovers, one off subframe, turbo kit, stand alone management, etc? I'm just curious what it would take to keep up with a M4 around the track....? I figured this was the best place to ask.
Cheers. |

As stated before, money. But lets break it down.
M4 = 3500lbs, 425 HP. So, given the FRS weight advantage, you need to get it up to 400HP (crank). So go figure out whichever turbo/supercharger/built engine system will get you there and stay reasonably reliable as your first step. Now because you are pushing a lot more power, you're going to want to upgrade the drive train. At this point if you add some decent coilovers you should, from an equipment perspective, be able to handle the M4. Since you are talking about track I'm assuming the brake pads and fluid are already done since any track car needs those. |

I think Fensport reliably competed on that spec for a full year before gunning for 500 BHP and building the engine.

Its probably cheaper to buy a mass produced package vs building a one off track weapon.
But there's no question the twins have the bones for it. Engine, brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, drivetrain. Easy to double or tripple the initial cost of the car. Its cool that so many people have done it.

I was at the BMW dealer today. I like the sound of the M4. A salesperson was revving it as I walked by. The i3 i test drove is a solid car. Way too much regen on the accelerator pedal, though. I don't know what they were thinking.
Anyway, back to the M4. It's not a pretty car.

For the same money, I would buy a lightly used 911.

You can get a 991S for the price of an M4, or a new 981S Cayman, both of which are a much better cars.
