Newer OEM tunes from Subaru/Toyota - anyone analyzed them?
Hi guys, just curious if anyone has ever looked at some of the newer OEM calibration IDs (such as ZA1JF40C) and compared them against the earlier ones (such as ZA1JA01C or ZA1JB01C)? Wondering what changes if any Subaru has made along the way ... I've heard from a local tuning shop that there are discreet little-known changes to the FA20 engine in the 2015-2016 models, such as different valve springs. Consider that a rumor for now as I don't know first-hand, but could it be that the newer tunes are improved in some ways and maybe a better starting point for customized tunes than the older ones? Or at least take into consideration that the newer models engines might be slightly different, and flashing to a custom tune based on an older ID might be a step backwards in some way? What do you guys think?

I have had a quick look at the newer calid roms. Their appears to be no significant changes to the "tune" ie the AFR Ignition timing, cam timing etc tables are almost identical, other than very minor changes look like for fuel economy possibly. you can compare yourself just download the newer roms from the Tactrix thread linked below and compare in romraider (you will need defs from romraider site for the two roms) you can use the oft ones or the romraider ones. note newer/older defs may have more/less tables defined this does not mean the new roms have more tables its just the definition does not reference them |

thanks @steve99 -- i know I could have done the comparisons myself with RR but I didn't think I'd know what I was looking at haha. More satisfying to know that someone with more knowledge has looked at them and confirmed that there is not much different about them.
