Japanparts.com questions

Hey everyone,

Just trying to see who has ordered from japanparts.com. I have been looking at many different items on their website and just haven't gotten around to ordering anything yet. But I have several questions.

1) Does everyone choose the shipping to your door only? Or have you had it shipped either to the airport or seaport only? If so what is the process in regards to picking up your item? Do you get notified that it's arrived at ______ place and you need to go pick it up?

2) When buying something from the website have you had to deal with customs on the items? Such as a friend of mine is telling me that I should worry about the customs price on top of the total, but should be fine if the price is under $1k? This doesn't make sense to me..

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I've ordered from Japanparts

Got the order much faster than expected

Shipped to my door (small item (taillights)) the other options sounded complicated)

No hangups at customs. Customs fee was negligible IIRC.

10/10 - Would use them again.

Customs fees are not too bad for what I ordered, I think I spent a tad over a grand. Shipping time was dead on and I only get shipped to my door. 10/10 would use again I highly recommend them @MisterSheep. Also they have aweful English and its funny sometimes when they try to explain something.

Okay, but when do they add that customs fee? Do they let you know what it is when its shipped to you? Or do they automatically add it to ur payment method when u purchase the part?

Most places only quote the shipping costs then the shipping company collects duty and fees on the boarders behalf. There is a site you can use to get a rough idea of what the cost will be for duty as its different per item even if 2 things have the same price. Example a strut bar is $300 and a headlight is $300, duty on the strut bar might be $20 but the headlight might be $50.

Given Canada and Japan (and us in New Zealand) are all in the trans pacific partnership trade agreement if it all goes through maybe you won't need to pay customs/duties on car parts you import into Canada at some stage.

Not sure what tariffs on car parts are to change under the agreement but they should be dropping.

PS. Welcome back!

Edit: found this @go_a_way1 on the trans pacific partnership trade agreement - "Canada will eliminate its 6.1 percent tariff on Japanese automobiles in five years and 6.0 percent duty on close to 90 percent of Japanese auto parts." So, your import duty on Japanese cars will drop to zero and on 90% of Japanese parts if it goes through.

And for USA - "The U.S. tariff of 2.5 percent on Japanese automobiles will start to be incrementally lowered 15 years after the agreement takes effect, halved in 20 years and elimination in 25 years.

The United States will eliminate tariffs on more than 80 percent of auto parts imported from Japan."

Don't think your new PM wants to sign it but may be forced to given the agreement covers a lot of the world and staying out of it could be a disaster for your exporters.

It's not worth shipping to a port UNLESS you know exactly what you're doing and have experience with picking up things there. It's not that complicated, but nobody's going to tell you what you need to do, where to go, etc.

It's easiest to ship to your door. There are misc. fees which the shipping company pays, which is why it's more expensive.

As for duties, you will likely get a bill from FedEx or UPS a few weeks after you get your shipment. They front the duties for you in order to clear the shipment, and collect from you afterwards.

I have purchased a lot of different parts from japanparts and would definitely recommend them.

The duty fee invoice usually shows up in the mail several weeks after the item has been delivered.
