hardly lol...2011 Toyota Sienna SE puts down 0-60 of 7 seconds, and a few other toyota/nissans/dodges put down mid 7's.

And there are a plethora of siennas/quests/caravans etc out on the road. You aren't exactly blowing any of these away in a stock-ish frs/brz, or when you need to merge on the freeway and need a few car lengths.

That same site lists the manual frs 0-60 at 6.2 and auto at 7.9...And with the way most people drive manuals, the 0-60's are probably both pretty close to about the same, with a slight advantage to manual.

The car is great, just slow.

Oh it's not that I (we) can't take them it's that you are asking the car for a lot and is it really that important to do that frequently? As I've matured (aged?) I tend not to jump away from lights like I used to so winding the car out to 5k+ in regular street traffic isn't something I need to do as much as I did in the past. That minivan or sedan driver doesn't have to ask his/her motor to work terribly hard to outdistance us.

It's pretty ridiculous being side by side with a v6 minivan that is totally silent while you are screaming along at 5500rpm in first...

Look at it this way: it doesn't take very many functioning brain cells to floor it on a powerful car in a straight line. Most of the time, the cars that blow by me on the straights are braking early and getting all wobbly approaching corners.

Accept it - know your strengths, and what battles aren't worth wasting gas on.

I didn't own the Evo; I was just the one doing the majority of its driving for a few years. At the time, my best friend lost his license, and I had been learning to drive manual in a few racing sims (Colin McRae, and GTR2/Evolution)...so he decided it was the perfect time to teach me. Trial by fire, especially for a very nervous 18-year-old. Even then, the car was pushing ~330HP to the wheels, and I owned an 04 Malibu at the time. The first time I hit boost, it scared the shit out of me, but I got addicted.

Wound up driving that car in its various forms, up until he sold it a few years later...around the time I got my Focus. It was stupid at that point though, pushing 530+ to the wheels, with a triple-disc clutch. You couldn't drive the damn thing if you weren't beating on it. Did spend a lot of nights in the garage with him, working on the car.

I bought the Focus because I wanted something with three pedals to call my own, but at the time I was broke and in grad school. It was a great little car, for what it was, and some of the most fun I've had driving any manual car (more powerful modern hot hatches included).

I'd pick up an Evo myself, but I'm not that stupid. While they're amazing at what they do, they're also very particular...and their owners tend to assume they can be beat on like Subarus. So the Evos left are either destroyed or very highly priced.

Also, while I still enjoy speed, I just don't have a great need for it like I used to. I think I got that out of my system when I was younger...at least as far as the public roads are concerned.

A weighted shift knob will fix your issues. I had to same feeling about the gearbox. It's honestly amazing stock but it just needed a heavier knob to make sure you can get into the gear you need to be for sure.

Honestly, when I bought my 10 Series, I went into the dealer looking to buy a tC. I wanted something smaller, fun and better MPG than the Sequoia I own.
I really liked the look of the Silver Ignition paint in the sun and decided to take the FR-S for a drive.
5 minutes into the test drive and I was having flashbacks of the silver '85 Supra (MT) I had 20 years ago. Granted, that car was bigger, much heavier and had 2 more cylinders, but to me it was very similar in how it felt and behaved. The FR-S is better balanced and even more fun to drive!

As was mentioned, take a longer test drive and you will completely fall for it.

Good luck!

Yeah, lots of the interior is consistent or similar to that of the ae86. I sat in there back in 2012 and was like, "wth this is my ae86, but redone!"

People are too obsessed with 0-60 times. Going fast in a straight line is cool I guess but what good does it do? When you live in the City (like LA in my case) and deal with traffic ( I hate you 405) you dont even get the opportunity to drive 10mph lol at least with a good suspension setup (like the one that the FRS has) you can go to the Angeles Crest (Canyons) and have some fun. Idk that's my opinion I think having a car that goes fast in straight line is overrated unless your building a drag car.

This car takes all the numbers and burns them with a giant flame thrower like you would use to kill Australian spider. It might not go fast, nor set lap records, but the smiles and grins and chuckles it gives out is incredible.

Transmission is pretty clunky when cold, and cold it can be here in Eastern Canada. It takes a little while in winter to warm up and loosen up. Once warm though it shift great. 3rd to 4th I find is the most satisfying shift. It`s so quick and easy, like a hot knife in warm butter.

NYC here. I was born into traffic. Anything faster than a FiST is really wasted here.

.
Impreza owners seem to think their engines are as stout as the 4G63T, and end up in the same predicament.

If speed doesn't matter too much anymore, I'd really consider checking out a Miata as well. The acceleration characteristic of that car is much better, at least in the first gen Miata) than it is in the FR-S.
