"Older than 40" is probably a very old saying
The difference between 1930 and 2015 isn't as dramatic if you consider life expectancy IF you each 50.

In 1930 the average was 22.1 years (72.1)
In 2009 I was 31.3 years (to 81.3)

Still a significant difference but not as much as if you consider it from birth. Shows there was still a lot of infant mortality in the '30s.

Ya, I was simplifying just to say that 40 isn't as old as it once was.

You have to take the whole quality of life into all this as well. Great you "lived" to 90 but if spent the last 15 years of that as a medicated semi living husk then does it really qualify as "living". I know that is a little deeper then we were going here but that is part of how the numbers look so high now.

Man, this thread...story of my life and I'm turning 33 this year.

Honestly, time is flying by SCARILY FAST. I swear it felt like yesterday that I graduated from high school. I know that time will keep going by faster and faster which makes me nervous because I don't feel my age at all. I still do stupid crap like I did when I was younger and I still have the same aspirations...mostly. I just don't FEEL my age. The only difference compared to my teens was that I notice my energy levels are not where it was anymore. Back then I could wrench on my car overnight but now...I need a break after only a few hours. I hate the thought of getting old and it scares me to death knowing that I'm already half way through my functional life. I WISH TIME WOULD SLOW DOWN.

Hooray for genetics!
Thank God that your rubbish diet, smoking and beer lifting training routine hasn't dulled your taste in decent cars.

The problem is that it can sneak up on you and you never see it coming. Retirement homes are filled with people that probably thought the same way you do.

Something I don't like very much about my aging is that I look younger than my actual age, probably like a 30-35-year old. One thing is that some pople still don't take me seriously. But above all, I love the angry looks 20-something kids give me when I beat them on the karting track, I can only imagine how livid they would be if they realized I am twice their age

For sure, I doubt anyone wants to reach that stage, you just sort of find yourself in a situation like that

Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional. I opted out.
