DD "race car" build
Hey guys!
So I've been doing some research here while I spend my time in Fort Lost In the Woods, MO (AKA St. Robert, Missouri). I have a lovely black FR-S waiting for me when I'm done with my training here and I get back home. I have been thinking of what I want to do to her once I get there and finally decided on building a Daily Driven "race car". My inspiration is Ken Gushi's personal FR-S which I saw in [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0ZltMirtBI"]this[/ame] video. ![]() ![]() I have decided what wheels I want to get; I already ordered a set of matte bronze XXR 527's (18x8.75 et35). Ill probably wrap them in bridgestone potenza re760 sport tires. I want the same kind of "square" fitment that Ken has on his FR-S. No crazy camber and not crazy low, it's simply functional. I need help choosing a coilover system that will help me achieve this while maintaining a comfortable ride for daily driving and still being able to drive aggressively in the mountains ( I live in NM so I do drive through fun, curvy roads quite often and is why I chose to buy an FR-S. For power, I don't want to do crazy, over the top modifications for power. I just want bolt-ons to maintain reliability. I plan on installing an Invidia N1 catback exhaust system with front pipe. Also, a cold-air intake(not sure which). Finally I want to top it off with an E85, FlexFuel tune from EcuTek. Input for other bolt-ons is appreciated. For looks I want to get my hands on a VIS Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid (weight reduction, bro ), APR front splitter, and a Seibon rear diffuser cover. Im also going to blackout the headlight housings and install halo rings, and retrofit a projector high beam.Budget: I'd like to keep the suspension in the $1000 +/- price range. The modifications I listed are already in the works, any others will come as I gather the funds. Last edited by eddyy; 02-14-2016 at 01:11 AM. |

I highly suggest starting with a header and tune. By far the best bolt on mod for the money.

Fixed. Thank you.
I was thinking that, just not sure what would be best. I know I have to choose between Equal and unequal length and theres just so many options. |

+/- $1000 wont get you race car status depending on how racecar you want to go.

Just from personal experience I really like the Ptuning equal length header. They get around 200 WHP after an Ecutek tune. However the torque dip still remains

I want to roar past the VA and cause the vets to have a PTSD attack, be able to do madd skid just because, and break necks while still being able to drive to/from school and work, and rely on her when I hit the slopes during the winter and take summer road trips.

Well for that price you could get a mid-tier coilover, like the BC Racing BR Type Coilover. A lot of drifters use them with decent results, so they have been shown to withstand a beating.

top of the line will run you between 5-8k depending on adjustablility. 2-3k if youre looking for a better wallet hit but still DD and track-able (falls under canyon runs) and adjustability.

I'm not looking for adjustability and all that fancy crap, you guys need to re-read my title. It will be a Daily driven "race car" (notice the ""), she will probably never see a track but will go for the occasional Sunday morning mountain drive just for shits and giggles. Bottom line, I just want it to make me smile whenever I park and look back.
