Drift-Office : "AVO 350" ~ Now w/ 116 Octane Unleaded Race Gas!

Ref : http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41463

Pursuant to us breaking into the 300s with 92 Octane in our previous posting, I got around to testing out some of the new 116 Octane (Unleaded) that we've been using in our >600WHP 2013 Formula D rig in the FRS and the results have been very satisfying.

Since everyone was using E85 to showcase their product, I'd try something more consistent and less detrimental to the car's fuel system in terms of real race gas to see how the AVO kit responds to this...

Quick Recap :

AVO TurboWorld Turbo Kit for the FRS / BRZ / GT86
6MT Transmission
STOCK OEM Injectors
STOCK OEM Fuel Pump
8 PSI Actuator w/ AEM Electronic Boost Solenoid
Drift-Office Custom ECUTEK Calibration
AVO Clutch & Flywheel
AVO 2.5 Inch Overpipe, Front Pipe & Exhaust
AVO Blow Off Valve
Rota 19 Inch TORQUEs
FUSE Fuel 116 Octane Unleaded Unoxygenated Race Gas

If there was any question about the capabilities of this "small" turbo, I think this would probably put your mind at rest.

"She likes dem boost!"

On to the goodies : >220#s of TQ from 3500 RPM
>250#s of TQ from 4000 - 7000 RPM
Peak Power @ 6800 RPM ~ 350WHP
@ 12.1 PSI
(12.6 was the peak) and with 116 Octane gas.

Now comparing that to the likes of the "AVO 300" @ 92 Octane with a pound of boost less...

Quite the gains indeed. Some might say otherwise but the fact of the matter is that while you're also making higher peak numbers, you're also getting there FASTER. Observe :

^^^
Interestingly enough, both runs with the different fuels hit peak power @ 7 seconds. What's also interesting is that because of the additional timing that the race gas allows for, you'll hit rev limit (or top speed of 106 MPH in 4th gear) a good half second before 92 would. Granted that this is on an inertia based no load dyno, that's still going to save a few tenths on the drag strip or roads!

Now in comparison to one of our BEST Stage 1.5 / 8 PSI runs, the difference is pretty glaring.

Here's the obligatory video clip...

Ok ok...I'll let you slide with the initial post saying stock OEM fuel pump then a few lines down it says AVO uprated fuel pump.

I'm just jerking your chain! Good stuff!

Sorry, it is the original OEM fuel pump. The AVO one was taken out a couple of months ago for another project. I copied the original text from the previous AVO 300 post. Thanks for that catch!

That sound is intoxication. I have no idea how you would keep it from spinning tires on the road.

No further questions, your honor.

Wish we could buy that race gas at the pump. I remember buying something similar from Sunoco in the 70s (leaded of course)

Really? That's a really small "valley" all things considered, and it could be an exhaust efficiency issue or maybe cam timing... And if you think that 116 solves all your problems, then perhaps lowering the compression would probably get you a smoother chart, not that this one isn't pretty damn slick already.

I must say that everything runs soooo much smoother, it's almost like the perfect octane to use to be honest!

Power on tap. response at will. That's really the key selling point of the AVO kit. You don't have to wait till you @ 4500 RPMs for this turbo to start spooling.

Actually, we're about to start working on some injectors and pump, stuff ATs will need so you'll be hearing from me soon enough!

Cheers!

Well, we do have a hicomp motor with a turbo bolted on so higher octane would be more ideal. And i was just wondering about that valley coz compared to your other dynos, that's the only one with it. Cant win them all i guess.

Yep, ditto! I'm sorry we only had a few brief minutes to chat - I know you guys came back later but I was in a discussion with someone else at that time and had hoped that you would have come back.

Next time, first rounds on me!

Yeah, as much as I would love to have "picture perfect" dyno plots, the reality of it is there's always going to be a compromise. Much like the UEL / EL discussion, you're going to have to give up something for one or the other. In this case, we were shooting for top end performance and the mid range suffered a slight drop in torque, nonetheless very impressive even so.

I suppose I could spend a couple more hours adjusting the cams / overlap and see if I could smooth it out but that's what we in the tuning industry call "splitting hairs".

Regards!
