People need to stop getting their panties all in a bunch over Scion discontinuing. If you drive the 86 platform, just enjoy the crap out of your car; that's what it was made for. If you are really that concerned about resale value, I recommend you stop buying cars as we all know they are just depreciating assets.

If the refresh is an improved version, that's a good thing! Hopefully it means more people will become interested in this amazing car we are all able to drive. And if you like the new features so much then you can choose to upgrade. In the time being, appreciate our car for what it is.
I only mentioned my opinion in the hope of being a possible help to those who may have been considering selling their cars for any reason. My point is that branding and model refreshes do affect purchase decisions, and resale values by default. I would certainly advise anyone that's happy with their car to keep and enjoy it. Trading up..especially to new, is nearly always a net loss financial decision...at least with the type of personal vehicles I buy. Not much time or motivation for fixer uppers these days. In the end, it's a value call for the individual.

Some people, including myself, may prefer the Toyota branding and don't want to own a Scion for personal reasons, but it's asinine to say that the old FRS are going to depreciate in value. Anyone who has enough knowledge worth a damn know that they're Toyotas at heart and if it bothered them they would've gotten the BRZ variant. Those people aren't going to panic and SELL SELL SELL!!!

I also find it laughable you won't own a Subaru despite the fact that the 2 cars are made in the exact same place... with the exact same parts...
I didn't say I "wouldn't own a Subaru". I just would be less likely to buy a new platform from Subaru than Toyota, since from what I've learned, Toyota has a superior warranty service record to any other maker I know of, and most bugs will surface within 2 years of a new platform release. FYI, I started my 1st business in 1990. If that's is "supposed" to you, feel free to hit the ignore button...please.

The badge switching went on because people stated that the FRS WAS a Toyota and NOT a Scion. This fact was the very basis of my point.

Oh and to give in to personal sentiments (sorry ichi I know I promised) stating that you were a "Used Car Dealer" for a whole 3 years does not come as a high recommendation.
So why change the badge if brand is not important? Why would real world experience putting my money where my knowledge is on car values not be relevant here? Again, what makes you an expert? 4 cups of coffee and a keyboard?

To step in with my $0.02, I think you are mistakenly looking at the actions of some enthusiasts/fanboys as representative of the average buyer. Just because a relatively small group of people did this does not indicate the value of a scion badged car going forward.

But then again, I am just an engineer who deals more with logic than market pressures and trends

I never once said brand is not important. I said in the case of the FRS brand is not important as it is a Toyota/Subaru not really a Scion. It is just a badge.

I do not claim to be an expert. I will leave that up to you and your obviously very successful 3 years of used car sales.

I am done going in circles with you and there will be no further responses to your comments or personal innuendos and attacks.

May not be anything but the wife saw a yellow FRS, not FRS but a a GT badge, I asked her about 86 and she didn't see any 86, lol she must miss the one glued on the fender of our FRS.

Maybe the rebadging has started, to 86GT or GT or GT86 dunno, maybe someone just glued a GT badge on , but what threw me was the yellow. Isn't that a series 1 color. Maybe nothing, I'lll have to see the car myself

LOL There are 1,000 (10,000s?) that glued on GT badges already. Also Ferrari badges, Porsche badges and some sort of winged line badges.

I changed badges from Scion to Toyota because at the heart of the car (well, maybe not the heart, 'cause then it would be a Subaru engine, maybe I mean the soul) it's a Toyota. I had some extra jangle in my pockets and decided that the shiny, chrome look of the Toyota badge looked nicer than the matte grey look of the Scion badge. AND THEN I ADDED A TRD BADGE BUT I DON"T HAVE ANY TRD PARTS OMFG.

I seriously doubt anything major will change. Maybe we'll see a drop in prices if an "average, layman" buyer is looking for an FRS, but anyone who knows what the car actually is won't be turned off by the fact that Scion is kill. Toyota handles all the service on my car anyways, since Scion doesn't have a service department where I live. Again, as @Tcoat so gloriously stated, every single part in the car either says Toyota or Subaru or Denso, or whatever I guess. Except the badges, stereo and steering wheel.

In the real world, do I care if I lose a couple grand when/if I sell the car? Nah, not really. If I have to I'll drive this car until it isn't worth repairing, take it to the wreckers and watch it get crushed then pour a little Henny out all because my resale value dropped into the negatives because my car is actually a Scion branded vehicle, instead of a Toyota branded vehicle.

I bought my BRZ before I discovered related online user forums. Why did I pick BRZ over FRS? One reason for sure was the Scion nameplate. Not only the name, but at my point in life I wanted the Limited features that were unavailable on the FRS. So adding to the "name" branding problem for me was also the marketing strategy for the brand.

What if there had been a Toyota-badged FRS with available Limited features? Ahh....that would've required more thought and study. Don't know for sure, but I liked the idea of buying the car from the actual manufacturer and that probably would have kept me on the BRZ. That and the WRB color - which is still the Best Ever!
